Two Goals in Final Ten Minutes Leads to LCU Loss

ALVA, Okla. (October 28, 2014) – Leidlane Capobianco recorded a two-goal game and led Northwestern Oklahoma State University to a 4-2 win over Lubbock Christian University Tuesday afternoon at Alva Recreational Complex in non-conference action.

LCU entered the contest outscoring the opposition 16-4 in the first half of games this season, but it would be NWOSU taking advantage of the Lady Chaps in the opening half of play. With four of LCU's top five point leaders not in the starting lineup, NWOSU jumped up early, as Capobianco scored her first goal of the game 10:22 into the contest.  They made it 2-0 with 7:01 left in the first half with Kaitlyn O'Toole finding the net from 30-yards out.

Goalkeeper Lauren Story, who stopped two of four shots faced, was replaced at the half with Leslie Castellano, and the change nearly changed the LCU luck. Ashley Ledford scored off a through-ball from Kate O'Gara 5:02 into the second half and LCU cut the deficit to 2-1. Twelve minutes later in the 63rd minute, O'Gara found the upper right corner of the net for her first goal of the season and it tied the game at 2-2.

Capobianco regained the Rangers lead with 9:14 remaining, netting her second goal of the game. It would prove to be the game winner, as Kaylee Peterson netted an insurance goal with 5:52 remaining.

LCU is now 0-3-0 when the opposition scores first and it marked the second time this season in which the Lady Chaps trailed at the half. The Lady Chaps also fell to 0-4-0 when being out-shot, as they were out-shot 22-21 (out-shot 11-9 in shots on goal). They fell to 10-5-0 on the season and they have lost two consecutive games (LCU has not had a one-game losing streak since the 2010 season).

Castellano was strapped with the loss (0-2-0), allowing two goals off seven shots faced in the second half. Briana Legaspi claimed the win stopping seven of nine shots for NWOSU. LCU's Claudia Sanchez had her streak of seven consecutive games with a goal come to an end. The Rangers were whistled for eight offside violations in the game. NWOSU improved to 7-7-3 on the season.

The meeting was the fifth all-time meeting against the former Sooner Athletic Conference foe and the first won by NWOSU. The loss opens a season-ending three-game road trip. It resumes Saturday in Oklahoma City with a 5 p.m. contest facing Oklahoma Christian University.
