Lady Chaps Shut Out OC For Seventh Clean Sheet

OKLAHOMA CITY (November 1, 2014) – Lubbock Christian University matched a single-season program record for shutouts in a season Saturday with a 3-0 Heartland Conference victory over Oklahoma Christian University for their seventh shutout of the season. The win places them in position to match a program single-season wins mark and no worse than a share of second place finish in the Heartland Conference standings if they can close out the season with a win Monday at Dallas Baptist.

They garnered the shutout, but with little work needed from goalkeeper Lauren Story. LCU had more goals (3), than OC had shots on goal (2). The Lady Chaparrals out-shot OC 28-5 overall and 14-2 in shots on goal. It is the sixth time this season LCU has held an opponent to two or less shots on goal. The seven shutouts matches last season's total. Story has been in net for all 14 shutouts, which has her with the individual program career mark.

Freshman Claudia Sanchez opened the scoring in the 27th minute to provide LCU a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break. Sanchez's goal was her 12th of the season and it marked the sixth time this season she has opened a game's scoring. Brooke Wendl provided LCU breathing room in the 61st minute with her 14th goal of the season. Sanchez assisted on the goal for a three-point night. Ashley Ledford, who assisted on Sanchez's goal, also capped a three-point performance with a goal in the 83rd minute to close the game's scoring.

Story claimed the win in goal (11-3), and the loss went to OC's Lindsey Williams (1-14-2), who allowed three goals on 14 shots faced. The meeting marked the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams and LCU has won all four meetings and all via shutouts (LCU has outscored OC 9-0 all-time).

The win helped LCU end a two-game losing skid and they are now 11-5-0 overall and 6-1-0 in conference play. OC fell without a win for a 16th consecutive game and are 1-14-2 overall and 0-6-1 in conference. LCU plays their final game of the season Monday in Dallas facing Dallas Baptist at noon. They will seek their 12th win of the season to match a program best 12-win season from 2012 (12-5-2).
