LUBBOCK, Texas (November 6, 2014) – Senior goalkeeper
Tim Saucedo took advantage of his final home game at LCU Soccer Field, stopping all seven shots faced and recording his second career clean sheet (first of the season) to help lead Lubbock Christian University to a 2-0 win over West Texas A&M Thursday afternoon in the final home game of the season.
LCU was out-shot 25-9 in the game and was out-shot 7-2 in shots on goal. The two shots LCU had, they took advantage of. The first came in the 24th minute with
Callum Chapman-Page heading in a long set-piece pass from
Lennard Hansen. It was Chapman-Page's first goal of the season and he becomes the 12th different LCU player to record a goal this season. LCU followed the 1-0 halftime lead with a goal from Hansen in the 64th minute for a 2-0 advantage. It was Hansen's 10th of the season.
The Chaps improved to 7-0-0 when leading at the half, while WTAMU fell to 0-7-0 when allowing the open-ing goal. With Chapman-Page's goal, LCU has nine different players credited with a game winning goal this season.
Saucedo improved to 7-2-0 in goal with the win. It was LCU's second shutout win of the season and Saucedo's first since Oct. 27, 2011 at Oklahoma Christian. The loss went to Patrick Satorie (7-7-1), who was unable to make a save off the two shots he faced for the Buffaloes.
The win marked the first all-time win for LCU against WTAMU (1-1-0). WTAMU closed their season with a 9-7-1 record. They were prevented from a 10-win season for only the fourth time in the program's 24-year history. The loss was the second loss the Buffs have faced with more than a one-goal differential this season.
The Chaps honored three players after the game whose playing career will come to an end at the sea-son's conclusion.
David Dykstra,
Stewart MacDonell, and
Cole Stuart were each recognized and they were joined by Saucedo, who had already received recognition for his service with the Chaps.
LCU improved to 9-5-1 with the win and they close their home record at 3-3-1 this season. They have a chance Sunday to close out the season hitting the 10-win plateau for the fourth time in program history (of five seasons), facing Eastern New Mexico at 3 p.m.
