• LCU was able to avoid a loss while playing the game's final 31:33 with 10 men following a red card.
HOW IT HAPPENED• Midwestern State opened the game's scoring with a pair of goals for a 2-0 lead. Antonio Hernandez scored on a free kick from 30 yards out in the 28
th minute, giving MSU a 1-0 lead at the half, and Albert Rodriguez scored his eighth goal of the season in the 53
rd minute to extend the Mustangs lead.
• Adu-Wusu started the Chaps comeback with a goal assisted by
Cedric Omoregie in the 64
th minute to get LCU on the scoreboard. His goal, resulting in a shot from bad angle on the goal line, ended up injuring MSU starting goalkeeper Noah Fazekas on the play. MSU relied on goalkeeper Richard Goss the rest of the way. The second goal from Adu-Wusu was tallied 14:29 later with an assist from
Mitchell Hopkins.
• LCU had five shots the rest of the way, but none were on target, while MSU had 11 shots with the score tied 2-2 and two were on target and stopped by LCU goalkeeper
Tristen Putnam.
GAME NOTES• The game was played at Frenship Soccer Stadium due to unplayable (weather) conditions at LCU Soccer Field. LCU is 0-2-2 all-time when playing a home game at an alternate venue.
• The Chaps witnessing an opening deficit is nothing new. Chaps opponents have scored first in seven games, including three of LCU's four wins this season. LCU is 3-2-2 when allowing the first goal.
• LCU tied a season low with 16 shots and were out-shot 21-16. It marked the first time this season the Chaps have been out-shot.
• Midwestern State carried a No.2 national ranking, which marked the best ranking by a Chaps opponent in program history. LCU moved to 3-5-2 all-time against ranked programs. They are 0-1-1 this season against ranked opponents and are 1-2-1 all-time in home games against ranked opponents.
• It was quite a storyline for Adu-Wusu, who registered his first multi-goal game and the 26
th in program history. Adu-Wusu, who entered the game with one goal on the season, redshirted the 2011 season at MSU and appeared in 16 games with the Mustangs in 2012 before transferring to Richland College (junior college).
• Chaps goalkeeper
Tristen Putnam made four saves off six shots, but his saves were of the dramatic variety, including coming off his line to deny Rodriguez on a breakaway in the 68
th minute.
• The tie placed LCU with an all-time overall record of 8-2-12 in games ending in overtime. It was the third draw under head coach
Lee Williams and the second of this season. LCU has had three games end in overtime this season (three of their last five games) and they are 0-1-2 in those games.
• LCU is now 0-1-1 all-time against MSU and the meeting was the first ever meeting between the two programs outside of Wichita Falls, Texas.
• The Chaparrals are now 2-2-2 at home this season. They are 5-5-3 all-time at home under Williams and 26-13-7 all-time at home overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS31:33: Adu-Wusu was caught up in the emotions of tying the game and tossed his jersey off amidst the celebration. It resulted in an automatic caution, and he was already sitting on a yellow card, so it resulted in a red card and the Chaps had to play a man down for the final 31:33. The Chaps had been red-card free the past 16 games.
UP NEXT ?Lubbock Christian (4-3-2) remains home Thursday to face another tough opponent, as Rogers State comes to Lubbock for a Heartland Conference meeting. The Hillcats (5-4-1, 0-2-0) are winless in their last four games (0-3-1), but they gave No.8 St. Edward's a scare, falling 1-0 in double overtime Saturday.
