DALLAS, Texas (November 7, 2015) –
Tess Bruffey led a trio of Lady Chaparrals in double figures with 13 points and Lubbock Christian University closed out their exhibition season with a 69-52 win over John Brown University Saturday afternoon inside American Airlines Center.
LCU never trailed and opened the game with an 8-0 lead, with six of the points scored by
Kelsey Hoppel. The Lady Chaps led 18-6 at the end of the first quarter. John Brown used a balance offense with their first eight buckets coming from eight different individuals and kept the deficit within reach, as LCU led 38-24 at the half.
JBU cut the LCU deficit to 10 in the third quarter, but LCU responded with a run and a three by Hoppel helped LCU build as much as a 22-point lead. LCU led 55-33 heading into the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagles opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run, but LCU was able to keep their distance for the win.
Bruffey led all scorers with 13 points, with 11 points tallied in the first half. Hoppel and
Nicole Hampton each produced 12 points in the win. Kodee Powell, who had eight points in the fourth quarter, led JBU with 10 points. Former Frenship High School product Brooke Barker scored nine points for JBU.
Official detailed stats were not kept (only a book was kept). LCU closes out their exhibition schedule 2-1. The regular season begins Friday in Pueblo, Colo. against CSU-Pueblo. The Thunderwolves defeated both Southern Utah and Utah Valley State during their exhibition schedule.
