Ndlovu's Hat Trick Helps Chaps Rock Cougars

LCU Posts Consecutive Five-Goal Performances For First Time In Program History

LCU HIGHLIGHTS

Mbongeni Ndlovu produces his first multi-goal game and hat trick with a three-goal and six-point performance.
• Transfer Mickey Brunton produced a three-point game with a goal and an assist.
• LCU led as much as 5-0 and were 14:39 away from a clean sheet.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ndlovu, entering the game with four goals in 22 career games played, recorded a natural hat trick. He opened the scoring in the 21st minute and followed in the 40th minute with his second marker to produce the game's only scoring in the first half. He completed the hat trick in the 57th minute. His hat trick spanned a time length of 35:42.
Lennard Hansen ended Ndlovu's streak a goals and helped LCU to a 4-0 lead in the 63rd minute with a goal assisted by Victor Domingues.
• LCU closed their scoring with Mickey Brunton dribbling down the goal line from the left corner and slipping the ball through the short-side off the goalkeeper Brandon Eide for a brilliant goal in the 74th minute.
 
GAME NOTES
• The Chaparrals are now 3-3-0 all-time in road openers and their last win in a road opener was Sept. 1, 2011 at Our Lady of the Lake.
• Ndlovu's hat trick marked the fifth hat trick in program history and the first since Hansen recorded one on Sept. 25, 2014 against Texas - Permian Basin. The six-point performance ranks tied for third in LCU single-game record books. His three-goal performance ranks tied for second.
• Hansen has opened the season with goals in consecutive games. It marks the third time in his LCU career in which he has scored at least one goal in consecutive games.
• LCU has scored five goals in two consecutive games for the first time in the program's six-year history. The Chaps have never scored five or more goals more than two times in a single season.
• Colorado Christian prevented LCU's shutout bid with a goal by Blake Goodale in the 76th minute. Despite trailing 5-1, Cougar fans had something to celebrate, as the goal ended a shutout sequence of 447:02. Dating back to last season, the Cougars had been shutout in their prior four games. They nearly scored in 42nd minute on a shot past LCU goalkeeper Tristan Putnam, but Andres Ramirez was able to make a team save and keep the ball from crossing the goal line. 
• LCU is 1-0-0 all-time against CCU and 2-0-0 all-time against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foes.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
11 : The number of substitutions LCU used, as a total of 22 players saw the pitch and no player played less than 10 minutes.
 
UP NEXT

Lubbock Christian (2-0-0) will head to Alamosa, Colo Sunday for a 1 p.m. (Central) match with Adams State. The Grizzlies played a neutral site game against Upper Iowa following LCU's game and fell 3-0 to move to 0-2-0 on the season. Sunday marks ASU's home opener.
