Bell rings in grand day at PlainsCapital Park

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 30, 2016) - The Lady Chaps won both contests Saturday afternoon at PlainsCapital Park, a 9-0 victory over Western New Mexico and 7-2 defeat of Midwestern State with help from a grand slam from Ashton Bell in the first game and masterful pitching from Katera Eltsosie against MSU in the second.

ONE BIG INNING
In the first game versus WNMU (0-3) both teams were kept off the scoreboard through the first two innings. The Lady Chaps (4-0) had a big third inning scoring seven of their nine runs in one inning off a two-run double by Sammie Murrietta, a triple by Molly Davison and the grand slam by Bell.  A Morgan Colburn double in the fourth drove in the final two runs for LCU.

SHUTOUT
Ashton Bell got her first start in the circle for Lubbock Christian throwing four shutout innings striking out five of the 15 batters she faced. Savanna Luke came in to pitch the fifth inning of the run-ruled shortened victory. MaryJo Granger took the loss for the Lady Mustangs giving up seven unearned runs on six hits.

PITCHER'S DUAL
In game two against Midwestern State University (2-2), the starting pitchers kept both teams from crossing the plate for the first five innings. Eltsosie surrendered the first of only three hits allowed in the top of the sixth to Mustang catcher Amanda Thomas, a home run over the center field fence putting MSU up 1-0.

ONE BIG INNING AGAIN
Once again the Lady Chaps used one big inning at the plate to secure victory.  In the bottom of the sixth inning LCU put up all seven of their runs off of five hits and aided by two Mustang errors. Eltsoie helped herself out driving in one run. Addison Ard drove in one and Liz Torres drove in two putting the Lady Chaps up 7-1 at the end of the sixth. Eltsosie would give up one more run to MSU in the seventh off a Misty Muniz double.

THE WIN
Eltsosie went the distance striking out six in the win. Mustang starter, Peyton Helton, took the loss giving up two runs striking out five.

SUNDAY
LCU will closeout the Lady Chap Invitational with one more game Sunday against No. 21 ranked Regis University at 1:15 p.m.
