How It Happened

Set One
The Lady Chaps started out hot with back-to-back kills by Hanaway and Christiana Tavo to put LCU at an early 3-1 lead. The Lions answered quickly and overtook the lead at 6-4 thanks to a kill by Shannon Thompson. There would be five more lead changes between the Lady Chaps and UAFS. LCU would end up taking their final lead on a service error by UAFS's Kennedi Coleman. A kill by EHanaway closed out the set for Lubbock Christian and gave them the win by a score of 25-18.

Set Two
The Lady Chaps picked up right were they left off in the first set. Tavo racked up three kills to help LCU storm to an early 6-1 lead. UAFS remained persistent and chipped away at the Lubbock Christian lead, and an eventual attack error by Emily Hanaway allowed the Lions to tie up the set at 11-11. Tavo responded with two kills on four straight points to allow LCU to retake the lead at 15-11. Lauren Wood took matters into her own hands and racked up four kills in a late eight-point run by the Lions. This offensive burst by UAFS proved to be too much as they finished the set 25-22 over LCU.

Set Three
Hanaway recorded her eighth kill of the match to put LCU up 1-0. Despite being down 3-1, things looked promising for the Lady Chaps, as a UAFS attack error allowed the Lady Chaps take a 9-5 lead. But Lubbock Christian was plagued with attack errors and let the Lions go ahead 11-10 (LCU had 11 errors in the set). UAFS held steady and finished on a 6-1 run to take the set 25-19.

Set Four
The Lady Chaps, determined to push the game to a fifth set, and Lions traded blows until an attack error allowed UAFS take the reigns with a 5-4 lead. LCU wouldn't be silenced as Emily Hanaway recorded three of her 17 kills to put the Lady Chaps back on top 9-6. But a late nine-point run gave the Lions their final lead of the set at 17-12. The Lady Chaps tried to chip away at UAFS, but the margin proved to be too much as UAFS ultimately won the set 25-19.
