Lady Chaps Clinch Heartland Conference Tournament Berth

Clean Sheet Gives Palmer Single-Season Program Shutout Mark

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
• LCU clinched a berth into the four-team Heartland Conference Tournament.
• Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Palmer set a program single-season record by recording her eighth shutout of the season.
• The game winning goal was tallied by Haley Knesek for her 10th goal of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Knesek's goal came 11:53 into the contest, as she took advantage of a defensive miscue for an unassisted goal.
• LCU used a 19-6 shot advantage, which included a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
• Palmer registered her eighth shutout with little work needed, making one save.
 
GAME NOTES
• The shutout was LCU's 38th shutout overall in program history. Palmer, who claimed the franchise single season shutout mark, topped Lauren Story's 2013 and 2014 single season program record for shutouts by a goalkeeper (7).
• LCU, in their second year of postseason eligibility in Heartland Conference postseason play, clinched their second Heartland Conference Tournament berth. With one regular season game remaining, LCU and St. Mary's are each tied with 22 standing points and each traded a pair of 1-1 ties in their regular season series. LCU is at Newman Saturday, while St. Edward's hosts St. Mary's. St. Edward's has the top seed locked and will host the tournament in Austin, Texas (Nov. 3-5th) opening with facing the No.4 seed, while No.2-seed Dallas Baptist awaits the No.3 seed.
• Knesek's goal was her 10th goal of the season and all 10 have come in conference play. The freshman entered the game leading the conference in goals and points. She is LCU's first multi-goal scorer this season. Last season, Brooke Wendl, the program's career goals leader, finished the season with 10 goals.
• LCU, out-shooting RSU 19-6, has outshot the opposition in their last six road games and overall in 11 of their last 12 games overall.
• The Lady Chaps move to 24-10-4 all-time in Heartland Conference games and 10-7-2 all-time in Heartland Conference road games.
• With the win, LCU is 3-2-3 on the road this season and are 19-20-4 all-time on the road under head coach Alex Denning. Overall all-time, LCU is 29-30-6 on the road. LCU is unbeaten in their last five road games (2-0-3).
• The meeting was the eighth all-time meeting between the two teams (first in Claremore, Okla. since Oct. 21, 2013) and LCU leads the all-time series 5-2-1. They are now 2-2-0 all-time in Claremore.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
6: With their sixth conference win, LCU is now one win away from matching their best single-season wins mark for conference play. LCU won seven games in 2013, which was their first season in the Heartland Conference.
