Highlights
The Lady Chaps wrapped up their 2016 regular season with a win against Oklahoma Panhandle State Thursday night in Rip Griffin Center. Just as Lubbock Christian has done in their previous four matches, they routed the Aggies in a 3-0 sweep. Senior
Christiana Tavo hammered home 10 kills while picking up four digs to lead the Lady Chaps. Lubbock Christian finished the regular season 18-10 and 11-3 in conference play. The loss for OPSU was their 99th consecutive Heartland Conference loss.
How It Happened
Set One
There were four lead changes and the score was tied on six occasions in the first set. Unfortunately for the Aggies, their two lead changes took place early in the game. A kill by
Lauren Zoller allowed the Lady Chaps to take their final lead of the set at 7-6. An LCU attack error let the Aggies climb within two points and put the LCU lead to 12-10. The Lady Chap offense bounced back and proved to be too potent, as
Emily Hanaway provided the final three points to give Lubbock Christian the set victory at 25-16. Hanaway collected seven of her nine kills for the evening in the first set.
Set Two
Lubbock Christian controlled the second set from the very beginning. After jumping out to an early 4-2 lead, the Lady Chaps hit the throttle and went on an 8-2 run to widen their lead 12-5. A kill by LCU's Tavo doubled OPSU's score and gave the Lady Chaps a 16-8 advantage. Ultimately, a 9-1 run allowed LCU to finish off the second set 25-11.
Camille Porco added all three of her kills for the evening in the second set.
Set Three
The Lady Chaps opened up the final set on a 6-2 tear thanks to kills by Tavo and sophomore
Lauren Zoller. The Aggies never got closer to LCU than three points for the rest of the match. Zoller provided the final kill of the evening to tie a bow on the night and give Lubbock Christian a 25-10 set three victory.
