Lady Chaps top ThunderWolves with late rally

Morgan Colburn goes 5-for-5 to lead LCU

CANYON, Texas (February 12, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University trailed by three runs going into the seventh inning and came back to win in extra innings, 16-8, over the ThunderWolves of Colorado State University – Pueblo to open play in the West Texas A&M Invitational on Friday.

GETTING BEHIND
In the bottom of inning number one, the ThunderWolves (0-6) scored three runs with two away on two hits and three hit batters to take a 3-0 lead over LCU (8-3). The Lady Chaps would get one back in the second after a double by Morgan Colburn followed by Molly Davison hit to drive Colburn home. CSU-Pueblo would counter in the third inning by scoring another three runs, once again with two outs off five hits and a Lady Chap error.

DOWN BUT NOT OUT
The Lady Chaps trailed by five runs but managed to get one back in the fifth inning when Lindzi Clemmer doubled down the left field line to score Katlin Reed. In the sixth, LCU got one more across the plate when Colburn scored on a throwing error by the ThunderWolves' second baseman. Down by three in the seventh, the Lady Chaps got three to force extra innings with hits from Clemmer, Sydney Beuthien, Liz Torres and Colburn as well as a sacrifice fly by Ashton Bell to drive in the tying run.

EXTRA INNINGS
In the eighth inning, the Lady Chaps exploded for 10 runs off of nine hits. The Lady Chaps are 2-0 in extra-inning games this season and 14-5 all-time in games extending past the seventh inning. Today's 10 runs are a new Lady Chap record for most runs scored in extra innings. Addison Ard, Reed, Clemmer, Beuthein, Torres, Colburn, Ard, Reed and Baylee Goolsby all had hits for the Lady Chaps in the inning.

MULTIPLE HITS
Six Lady Chaps had multiple hits in the game with Beuthien, Torres, Ard and Reed each getting two apiece. Clemmer tallied three hits on the day while Colburn led all hitters by going a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate.

IN THE CIRCLE
Katlyn Holmes got the start in the circle for the Lady Chaps by going three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and hitting three CSU-Pueblo batters. Katera Eltsosie (5-1) took over for LCU in the fourth frame to get the win by throwing five innings, giving up two runs and striking out four. ThunderWolves' starter Madison Wolfe (0-2) suffered the loss after giving up nine runs on 12 hits and striking out six Lady Chaps. Wolfe was relieved by Lexie Martindale who earned the final three outs but gave up another seven runs on seven hits.
