GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (February 19, 2016) –
Morgan Colburn homered twice to help lead Lubbock Christian University to three victories on day one of the North Texas Bash in Grand Prairie on Friday. LCU won the first game, 6-5, over Eastern New Mexico, took game two, 11-4, over Texas – Permian Basin and game three, 10-5, over Bethany (Kan.).
MULTIPLE HITS
Three Lady Chaps (13-5) had multiple hits versus Eastern New Mexico (5-5) led by Colburn who went two-for-three with three runs-batted-in. One of Colburn's hits in the game was her first homer of the day and fourth of the season.
Sammie Murrietta also had two hits on the day including her third home run of the year. Senior
Katlin Reed had two hits as well.
ON THE BOARD EARLY
LCU jumped on the scoreboard quickly in game one with
Lindzi Clemmer leading off the game with a hit, then stealing second for her sixth stolen base of the year. Two batters later Colburn hit her bomb to put LCU up 2-0 after one. ENMU would get their only runs in the third after two Greyhound batters were hit by pitches before Morgan Green doubled to right centerfield to bring them both home. The Lady Chaps would add one more in the bottom of the third and three in fifth to wrap up their scoring.
IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie (7-2) went the distance in game one to notch her seventh victory of the year. She struck out five, allowing two runs off three hits while hitting two batters. For ENMU, Aja Secheslingloff (4-2) suffered her second loss of the year, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out six Lady Chaps.
FAMILIAR FOE
In game two the Lady Chaps faced fellow Heartland Conference member University of Texas of the Permian Basin (2-6).
Ashton Bell and
Addison Ard lead the team in the second game with Bell going two-for-two and driving in two runs and scoring three more. Ard was two-for-four by driving in two runs and scoring another. Seven of the nine Lady Chap starters tallied a hit in the contest.
ONLY TWO
In game two, both teams scored within two innings. UTPB scored two in the top of the second to take the early lead. The Lady Chaps then score eight runs in the third. The Falcons completed their scoring by getting two more across the plate in the fourth to make it an 8-4 ballgame. LCU would get three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to finalize the scoring in the contest.
THREE'S A CROWD
It took a crowd to garner the victory in game two.
Katlyn Holmes (4-1) started in the circle for LCU, allowing four runs off seven hits and earned the decision for her fourth win of the year.
Abbi White came in to pitch the fifth and sixth innings, striking out two and not allowing any hits before
Savanna Luke pitched the seventh to close out the game, allowing only one hit. A crowd also pitched for the Falcons as they also had three pitchers throw in the contest. Chelsae Faries (0-2) got the start and went two and a third innings, allowing four runs on two hits and suffering her second loss of the year. Kim Alonzo pitched a third of an inning, allowing four runs on three hits, and RustieAnne Spinks went the final three and a third innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
HOW SWEDE IT IS
LCU picked up their third win of the day against the Swedes (0-4). Two Lady Chaps garnered three hits, two more stroked for two and another pair registered one apiece.
Sydney Beuthien went three-for-three while Ard went three-for-four, Clemmer was two-for-four , Murietta went two-for-three and Colburn and Bell each had hits with Colburn's being her second home run of the day and fifth of the season.
IN THE CIRCLE
Bell (2-2) notched her second victory of the year going six innings and only allowing one earned run off of three hits and striking out five Bethany batters. Luke would pitch one inning, giving up three runs on five hits.
