Lady Chaps no-hit the Crusaders

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (February 20, 2016) – Katlyn Holmes threw her first no-hitter as a Lady Chap, earning a 14-1 victory against the Crusaders of Clarke University in game one Saturday at the North Texas Bash. Ashton Bell went three-for-four, driving in three runs and scoring three to help lead LCU to an 8-4 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State in game two.

NO-NO
Holmes threw the 14th No Hitter in LCU Softball (15-5) program history in game one against Clarke (2-3). She allowed one run when Hannah Weatherly hit into a fielder's choice to drive in Megan Sticker who was hit by a pitch to reach base. Sarah Crews took the loss for the Crusaders, going two-and-a-third innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits and striking out three.

MOLLY
The Lady Chaps hit three home runs in game one. Morgan Colburn recorded her sixth bomb of the year, a two-run shot over the left centerfield fence. Molly Davison hit the other two home runs in the contest with both sailing over the center field wall to bring in two runs with each. Eighteen Lady Chaps saw action in the first game, 13 got a chance to bat with 10 of those garnering a hit. Sammie Murrietta and Bell each had two hits in the contest while Davison was a perfect three-for-three at the plate.

DOUBLE DUTY
Bell got the start in game two versus OPSU (6-7) and went three-and-two-third innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out five Aggies. Bell also went three-for-four with a rocket over the right field fence and drove in three runs while scoring three. Katera Eltsosie (8-2) came in with the game tied 4-4 to close it out, as she threw the last three-and-a-third innings, not allowing a hit, to notch her eighth win on the year.

PALMDALE DUO
Once again, the two seniors from Palmdale, Calif., each had multiple hit games. Murrietta went two-for-four, driving in one run, and Liz Torres doubled twice in the game, going two-for-three. Colburn hit her second home run on the day, her fourth of the tournament, in the top of inning number one to put the Lady Chaps on the scoreboard first. Sydney Beuthien came up big for LCU with a two-out triple in the seventh inning to give the Lady Chaps an insurance run.
