GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (February 21, 2016) –
Molly Davison hit a three-run bomb in the sixth inning to lead the Lady Chaps to an 11-7 victory over their first ever NCAA Division I opponent, the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff Golden Lions, on Sunday to close the North Texas Bash.
BEHIND EARLY
The Lady Chaps (16-5) found themselves in a hole early when Golden Lion Paige Garcia hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning.
Morgan Colburn singled in the bottom half to drive in
Lindzi Clemmer. With the Lady Chaps trailing 3-1 in the third inning, Sydney Crossett hit a three-run shot over the left field fence to give UAPB (4-5) a 7-1 lead. LCU would get one of those back in the bottom half of the third when Colburn launched her team-leading eighth bomb over the center field fence.
MISS MOLLY
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth and the Lady Chaps still behind 7-2, Clemmer doubled off of the fence in left field to drive in two runs.
Sammie Murrietta immediately followed with a double of her own to drive in one more run. Colburn drew a walk before the Golden Lions changed pitchers. Then with two runners on base and LCU down 7-5, Davison hit a three-run monster shot over the left field fence to put the Lady Chaps on top at 8-7. Four batters later with the bases loaded,
Katlin Reed doubled down the right field line to bring in two more runs with LCU adding one more off the bat of
Ashton Bell to score
Sydney Beuthien.
ELTSOSIE
Katera Eltsosie (9-2) struggled early by giving up seven runs on six hits through the first three innings. She faced 14 batters in the final four innings to wrap up the final 12 outs and garner her ninth win of the year. Eltsosie struck out eight Golden Lions on the day. For UAPB, Karia Hall came in for the last out of the sixth inning and suffered the loss giving by up four runs on four hits.
TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
-Bell led the team in batting average by hitting .556 for the tournament.
-Colburn hit five home runs over the weekend with a 1.333 slugging percentage.
-As a team, LCU hit 10 homeruns (Colburn-5, Davison-3, Bell-1, Murrietta-1).
-Colburn led the team with 13 runs-batted-in.
-Eight Lady Chaps hit over .400 in the tourney (
Roxy Curiel, Bell,
Katlyn Holmes, Murrietta, Colburn, Davison,
Addison Ard and Reed).

Katlyn Holmes threw the first no-hitter by a Lady Chap since March, 12, 2013, the 14
th in program history.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
LCU will continue their month-long, 21-game road trip by heading to Austin to open Heartland Conference play against St. Edward's University Friday at 1 p.m.
