Lady Chaps split day one at College Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 4, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University began Day One of the Division II College Classic with a 2-1 win versus East Central despite stranding 10 runners, but then fell 11-5 to Texas A&M-Commerce in game two while leaving 13 Lady Chaps on the base path.

SCORE FIRST
In game one, the Tigers (0-3) struck first by scoring their only run of the game in the top of the third inning. Taylor David hit a one-out single to get on base and was driven in on Jordynn VanPelt's triple over the head of Baylee Goolsby in right field.

PALMDALE CONNECTION
The Lady Chaps (5-1) would get on the board in the fourth inning when Palmdale, California native Sammie Murrietta singled to left scoring the speedy Lindzi Clemmer from second base. In the fifth, the other half of the Palmdale connection, Liz Torres, led off the inning with a monster shot over the left field fence to put the Lady Chaps up 2-0.

GOING THE DISTANCE
Katera Eltsosie pitched the complete game to pick up her fourth win of the season. Eltsosie walked two and struck out four while allowing the one run on three hits. East Central starter, Marissa Shaffer, also threw all seven innings for the Tigers suffering her first loss of the year.

THAT LONESOME FEELING
Last Sunday during the season opening tournament, the Lady Chaps set a record by leaving twelve runners on base with the previous record of 11 occurring on February 15, 2013, against the University of Houston-Victoria. That record was short-lived as the Lady Chaps managed to leave 13 teammates on the bases in today's loss to TAMUC (1-0) while four times leaving the bases loaded.

GRAND PERFORMANCE
Cherie Jackson of TAMUC, a 6-0 sophomore from Carrollton, Texas, came in to pinch hit for the Lions with the bases loaded and launched a grand slam over the fences in left field. Jackson's hit put TAMUC up 7-2 after three innings of play. LCU was able to cut the deficit to three with Torres singling up the middle to score Clemmer and Sydney Beuthien. The Lions would plate four more in the fifth to go up 11-4. With the bases loaded in the sixth, Molly Davison was hit by a pitch to bring home Murrietta for LCU's final run.

COMMITTEE WORK
Both teams used a committee approach to pitching with each team using three different players in the circle. Lion starter, Katie Dean (1-0), would get the win going three innings by walking five, striking out one and  allowing three runs on five hits. Selena Rim and Brittany Woolridge would each pitch two innings for TAMUC. Katlyn Holmes (1-1) suffered her first loss of the year going two innings, walking four, striking out one and allowing seven runs on four hits. Abbi White came in to throw two and two-thirds innings and Savanna Luke pitched an inning and a third.

BIG DAY AHEAD
The Lady Chaps jump right back into action tomorrow to face the No. 10 TexAnns of Tarleton State at 10 a.m. and tournament host No. 12 ranked St. Mary's at 2 p.m.
