Lady Chaps keep streak alive against Greyhounds

PORTALES, N.M. (March 1, 2016) – Entering Tuesday's doubleheader, Lubbock Christian University softball held a 16-0 all-time series record against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds, and the Lady Chaps kept that streak alive on Tuesday by taking game one of the double-header, 10-5, in a seesaw battle before shutting ENMU out in game two, 12-0.

BACK AND FORTH
The Greyhounds (8-12) got on the scoreboard first in game one when center fielder Marleyna Pinon drove in leadoff batter Audrey Velasquez. LCU (18-7) bounced back in the second inning when freshman shortstop Lindzi Clemmer singled down the left field line to score pinch runner, Shelby Welch. The Lady Chaps would go ahead in the third when Liz Torres drove in Molly Davison. However, ENMU scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead 3-2. In the top of the fourth inning, Torres singled to right field to drive in two more runs and put LCU on top 4-3 before the Greyhounds tied it up 4-4 with another run in the fifth.

BIG INNING
In the top of the sixth inning ,the Lady Chaps used hits by Morgan Colburn, Davison, Torres, Katlin Reed, Ashton Bell and a sacrifice fly by Katera Eltsosie to score six runs and go up 10-4. The Greyhounds managed one additional run in the bottom of the seventh.

IN THE CIRCLE
Eltsosie (11-3) went the distance for LCU picking up her 11th victory of the season. The redshirt junior allowed five runs off of 11 hits while striking out seven Greyhound batters. Aja Secheslingloff (5-5) suffered her fifth loss of the year by allowing 10 runs on 14 hits.

Sammie Murrietta went 3-for-4 in the game while Colburn, Addison Ard, Reed and Bell each had two hits in the contest. Colburn launched her NCAA-leading 12th home run this year in the game and now has a NCAA-leading 35 runs-batted-in for the season.

ZERO
Katlyn Holmes (5-2) threw a five-hit shutout to notch her fifth win of the season. The shutout was Holmes' first as a Lady Chap and the team's third shutout of the year.
