Eight-Run Sixth Inning Keeps Aggies Unbeaten in Non-Conference Play

Chaps Fall 14-10 to Cameron in First Meeting Since 1981

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 5, 2016) – Cameron University used an eight-run sixth inning and a pair of home runs from Cody Bower to defeat Lubbock Christian University 14-10 and remain unbeaten in non-conference play (12-0). Tuesday's win at Hays Field was the first win ever for the Aggies over LCU (1-8) and it was their first meeting since the 1981 season.

LCU led 3-1 early on, but the momentum shifted in favor of the Aggies in the fourth inning. Cameron took a 5-3 lead with a four-run fourth inning jumpstarted by a solo home run from Bower. Brent Stewart led off with a triple in the bottom half of the inning and LCU tied the game at 5-5 with a Dylan Drury two-run blast.

Cameron responded with nine straight runs for a 14-5 lead. Bower led off the fifth with a single and eventually scored for the only run of the inning, and then came the eight-run sixth inning. The Aggies produced their eight runs off five hits and sent 13 batters to the plate. Bower hit his second home run of the game in the inning with a two-run home run. Nate Hale scored a pair of the runs on a two-run double in the inning.

LCU attempted a late rally, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Tony Reyes doubled in a run in the seventh inning and Stewart followed with a three run home run to cap a five-run inning and cut their deficit to 14-10.

Blake Welch claimed the win for Cameron (2-0), allowing five runs off seven hits. Bower finished the game 4-for-6 with three RBI and four runs scored. Hale was 3-for-5 for CU.

Brent Bezio started on the mound for LCU, but he gave up five runs (three earned) off six hits in 3.2 innings. The loss went to Albert Aveytia, who allowed four runs off three hits in 1.2 innings to fall to 2-5. Stewart led LCU at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance with 3 RBI. They also received two hits from Hunter McFall, who was 2-for-3.
