Narvaiz Produces Six RBI and McCarthy Gets Three Hits In First Start of the Season

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 9, 2016) – Josh Narvaiz recorded a career best six runs-batted-in and Lubbock Christian University completed their first three-game Heartland Conference series sweep of the season with a 15-1 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State University Saturday afternoon at Hays Field.

LCU received production from their depth in garnering their 25th win of the season (25-10). Narvaiz was making his fifth start of the season and he entered the game with five hits (all singles) and without an RBI produced. Also making his first start of the season was Brendan McCarthy. Narvaiz and McCarthy each went 3-for-4 in the game. Narvaiz had a three-run bases-loaded double in a seven-run first inning for his first extra-base hit and first RBI of the game. He followed in the second inning with a two-run single. Both of his hits came with two-outs, as LCU had 10 two-out RBI in the game. He was responsible for five runs batted in through the first two innings, as LCU led 11-0. McCarthy entered the game 1-for-1 on the season and produced hits in each of his first three at-bats in the game. He reached base in all four of his at-bats. His RBI in the game came off a double he produced in the second inning.

Jaime Bustamante also had a trio of hits for LCU. He was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. He opened the Chaps at-bats in the bottom of the first inning with his third triple of the season and finished the game a home run shy of the cycle.

LCU entered the game with eight extra-base hits in Friday's doubleheader and they hit seven on Saturday, with six doubles. LCU had three extra-base hits in the first inning and two doubles in a four-run fourth inning.

The two teams combined for 39 players used. OPSU used 20 different players, receiving a hit from six different individuals. Tristan Hubler was the Aggies starting pitcher and did not make it through the first inning, allowing seven runs (two earned) off six hits in 0.2 innings. He fell to 1-5. Logan Litton pitched four innings of relief and did not allow a Chaps hit over the final nine batters he faced.

The Chaps produced 15 hits in the game, going 11-for-23 with runners on base, 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position, 2-for-2 with runners in scoring position and less than two outs and 1-for-1 with the bases loaded. LCU was also 10-for-20 in at-bats with two outs. Russell Reber started and pitched three innings of shutout baseball, allowing two hits and claiming the win in the staff outing (4-1). Dillon Drury made his LCU pitching debut as one of four relievers used and he pitched a scoreless inning.

LCU improved their conference win streak to five wins are 11-4 in conference. It was their first series sweep in conference play, as they had gone 2-1 in their prior four series played. OPSU fell to 5-32 overall and 1-14 in conference, as they suffered their seventh consecutive loss. LCU returns to the diamond Tuesday with a 6 p.m. first pitch in Canyon, Texas facing West Texas A&M.
