Chaps Seek Third Straight Win... Hosting Newman Saturday

LCU Rides Two-Game Win Streak... Each are Shutout Wins

CHAPS FLIGHT DECK
•   LCU close out their opening weekend of Heartland Conference play and their opening weekend of home games Saturday hosting Newman University.
•   The Chaparrals are 2-3-0 on the season and winners of their two prior games. Included in the mix is a 2-0 home win Thursday over Rogers State.
•   LCU, who went 2-4-2 at home last season and are 1-0-0 at home this season, is 7-6-0 all-time in Heartland Conference home games (LCU went 1-3-0 last season at home in conference play). LCU is 27-15-7 all-time overall at home.
 
STORY LINES
•   Thursday's home win not only put LCU 5-1-1 all-time in conference openers and 3-1-0 in Heartland Conference openers, but it placed them at 6-1-0 all-time in home openers and provided head coach Paul Gilbert a win in his home coaching debut.
•   Cody Graves leads LCU in goals this season with two and good things happen for LCU when he scores. Each of his goals have also doubled as game winning goals. He ranks tied for eighth nationally with his two game winners.
•   LCU is coming off a two-goal game with a 2-0 win over Rogers State, which marked a season high for goal production for the Chaps this season.
•   The shutout win Thursday was LCU's second of the season and they come in consecutive games for the first time since Oct.19 and Oct. 22 of last season. It was LCU's 25th shutout in program history (13th at home) and the second under head coach Paul Gilbert.
•   LCU goalkeeper Fernando Rios leads the Heartland Conference and is 26th nationally in saves with 23 on the season.
•   Andres Ramirez is the only Chap (non-goalkeeper) that has played all 450 minutes of the Chaps season.
 
SCOUTING NU
•   The Jets are coming off a 10-7-2 mark last season in which they finished 5-3-0 in the Heartland Conference.
•   NU, who went 4-4-1 last season on the road, is 1-2-0 on the road this season, coming off a 3-0 win Thursday at Texas-Permian Basin for their first road win of the season. It was their first shutout win of the season.
•   The Heartland Conference has Newman preseason picked fourth in the conference preseason poll.
•   Carlos Rubio Garcia leads Newman with 7 points and three goals this season. Each category co-leads the conference. 
•   The Jets average 7.2 shots on goal per game, which is second in the conference and is in the top-50 nationally.
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH NU
• The all-time series is led by Newman 2-1-0 (road team winning two of the three all-time meetings).
• The prior meeting was in Wichita (Oct. 15, 2015) with the Jets winning 3-2.
• The prior meeting in Lubbock (Oct. 20, 2014) Newman won 1-0 with Taylor Henry's goal serving as the difference.
