How It Happened

Set One:
With LCU leading 4-3, MSU went on an 8-0 run and took an 11-4 lead behind a trio of kills from Addison Semer.  LCU clawed back with a 12-2 run and led 19-16. Eight errors by MSU led to the LCU charge, with Camille Porco providing three blocks for the Lady Chaps. The tide would take a final shift in the set with LCU leading 22-18, as MSU closed the set on a 7-1 run.  Meghan Bettis contributed three kills in the final offensive push for MSU. The Mustangs won the set dispite nine attack errors and four serving errors, as they were led by 18 kills (six by Bettis). LCU had kills from seven different players, but Lauren Zoller (two kills) was the only player with more than one. Camille Porco (four blocks) and Kelsie French (eight digs) led LCU in the set.

Set Two:
LCU had trouble distancing themselves from the Lady Chaps in the second set. The Lady Chaps witnessed a 5-2 lead turn into an 8-7 deficit, before rebounding with a 9-1 run for a 16-9 lead. Channing Stewart had a pair of kills and a block, while Porco provided a kill and serving ace to spark the LCU run. LCU would lead as much as 19-12 before MSU staged a late rally. The Mustangs had a 10-4 outburst to tie the set 23-23 behind six kills (Raven Presley and Rockelle Gholson each had a pair of kills during the stretch). LCU was unable to put the set away while leading 24-23, but with the score tied 25-25, LCU was able to win the set 26-24 with a kill from Stewart and an ace by Brynn Warnack.  Stewart completed the set with four kills, as MSU's Presley also provided four kills.

Set Three:
Coming out of the intermission, the third set was tied 10-10 before MSU responded with a 12-3 rally for a 22-13 lead. Meghan Bettis produced two of her five kills in the set during the 12-3 rally for MSU. LCU would cut to within six points (24-18) before a kill by Semer would put the set away 25-18. MSU had 15 kills and a .282 attack percentage in the set. LCU was supported by five kills from Emily Hanaway.

Set Four:
Nothing went right in the final set for LCU, as they were limited to five kills, produced seven attack errors and mustered a -.053 attack percentage. LCU had opened up the set on a 5-1 run, taking advantage of three attack errors by the Mustangs. MSU bounced back with a 13-2 run. LCU was able to get within four points (14-10), but MSU closed the set on an 11-3 run and won the final set 25-13. Bettis led all players in the set with five kills. Each team had 20 kills in the set, with LCU's French and MSU's Aerielle Edwards each with eight.
