GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (February 9, 2017) –
Averi Miller's two-out walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning highlighted a split on day one at the North Texas Bash in Grand Prairie at the Jennifer McFalls Softball Complex. LCU took the first game 5-4 over Texas Woman's off Miller's slam before falling to Tarleton State 12-2 in the last game of the day.
NO HITS
The Lady Chaps (7-1) got on the scoreboard first when
Courtney Medina scampered home from third base on a wild pitch. TWU (4-4) answered with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning then added three more runs an inning later. LCU was hitless through the first six innings, and then erupted with the four-run seventh inning.
GRAND ENDING
Sydney Beuthien doubled down the left field line to lead off the seventh inning keeping her streak alive of eight consecutive games to successfully reach base. Pinch hitter
Logan Grado drew a walk before
Roxy Curiel singled deep to the shortstop loading the bases. Adalae Vayas reached via a fielder's choice, which left the bases loaded with two outs for the Boise, Idaho native to hit her first home run as a Lady Chap, which sealed the victory.
IN THE CIRCLE
Katlyn Holmes got the start in the circle for the Lady Chaps going five innings allowing four runs while striking out five.
Katera Eltsosie (3-0) came in to pitch the final two innings, giving up only one hit and striking out five batters to notch her third victory. For Texas Woman's, Abby Walker (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season. She allowed three hits and struck out 10 Lady Chaps along the way.
E – E – E – E – E
In the second game of the day, LCU jumped on top early with Beuthien driving in
Casey Ingram in the top of the first inning. Tarleton State followed with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. In the second inning the wheels fell off for LCU, allowing 11 runs with only one earned. The Lady Chaps added one more run in the fifth when Miller came home on a wild pitch. However, five Lady Chap errors allowing 10 unearned runs was too much to overcome.
