GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (February 11, 2017) – In an early 10-0 hole to the No.5 ranked Muleriders of Southern Arkansas, Lubbock Christian University fought their way back to win the game 13-12 in 10 innings. In addition, LCU had shutout victories over Regis and Northwestern Oklahoma State to give LCU a sweep of Saturday action in the North Texas Bash in Grand Prairie.
ELTSOSIE
Katera Eltsosie (5-0) started in the circle for LCU, going six innings and striking out five before giving way to
Katlyn Holmes (3) who pitched the final inning to earn her third save and close out the shutout in game one versus Regis (4-5). Eltsosie also drove in one of the two runs for the Lady Chaps (10-1) in the game plating
Lindzi Clemmer with a double to centerfield.
BEHIND EARLY
In game two against the No. 5 ranked Southern Arkansas (5-1), the Muleriders scored seven runs in the first inning off six hits, three of which were home runs. Then SAU scored another three runs in the second inning to go up 10-0. After sending 18 batters to the plate in two innings.
COMEBACK
The Lady Chaps scored two runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth inning before heading into the bottom of the seventh down 4-10. The first two batters of the seventh inning for LCU grounded out. So, down to their last out,
Logan Grado drew a walk followed by
Cassie Sutton driving a ball up the middle before a walk by
Courtney Medina loaded the bases.
Haley Hardison doubled to left field to score all three base runners.
Lindzi Clemmer reached on a throwing error by the shortstop before
Addison Ard hit a triple to right-center field to bring both Hardison and Clemmer home. Sydney Beuthein singled to plate Ard and tie the game at 10-10.
EXTRAS
With the International Tie Breaker rule in place for the tournament the last girl to get out in the previous inning is placed at second base to start the inning. In both the eighth and ninth innings both SAU and LCU were able to score the runner from second to make it 12-12 after nine innings of play. In the 10th the Lady Chaps kept the Muleriders from scoring before
Annika Schwartzenberg was placed at second for LCU in the bottom half of the inning and was driven when
Roxy Curiel singled to right field for the walk-off win.
MO MAGIC
Monique Garcia (3-1) took over in the the circle for the Lady Chaps with two outs in the second inning and went the distance from there giving up only two runs on three hits in eight and a third innings striking out nine Muleriders. Four pitchers took part in the action for SAU with Carolina Sanchez (0-1) suffering the loss after going two and third innings surrendering three runs on three hits.
MORE ELTSOSIE
Eltsosie took to the circle in game three for the Lady Chaps and completed the game for her fifth victory of the season and second shutout of the day striking out nine. Northwestern Oklahoma State (2-8) sent Karly Murray (1-4) to the circle, who gave up three runs on five hits striking out four Lady Chaps along the way.
