GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (February 12, 2017) – Lubbock Christian University Lady Chap Softball closed out their weekend at the North Texas Bash in style with a 6-1 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville Sunday afternoon in Grand Prairie, Texas. LCU scored five of their six runs in the final two innings of play.
Sydney Beuthien and
Courtney Medina each scored two runs in the contest. Beuthien had three hits while Medina cracked two.
GARCIA
Monique Garcia improved to 4-1 on the season after pitching seven complete innings for Lubbock Christian. Garcia recorded three strikeouts in the game while only allowing three hits from the Javelinas. Of the 24 batters that Garcia faced, she only allowed one run in the third inning of play.
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
The Lady Chaps did not record their first hit of the game until Medina singled to left centerfield in the top of the third inning. Medina then stole two bases before
Casey Ingram struck out leaving one runner stranded.
The Javelinas then scored in the bottom of the third inning on a single by Rachael Longoria that brought in Delila Gillespie to put TAMUK up 1-0. It was not until the top of the fourth inning that
Lindzi Clemmer grounded out to the shortstop for an RBI that allowed Beuthien to score, tying up the ball game at 1-1.
Once again in the top of the 6
th inning, Clemmer provided some more heroics for the Lady Chaparrals. With two runners on base, Clemmer hit a double out to left field that brought in Medina and Beuthien.
In the top of the seventh inning, LCU tallied three more runs on five hits and one error by the Javelinas.
MEDINA
Courtney Medina had an impressive afternoon against Texas A&M Kingsville where she recorded two runs on two hits. Medina also accounted for all four of LCU's stolen bases for the afternoon. Medina's final run of the game came off of a single to left field by
Addison Ard.
BEUTHIEN
Sydney Beuthien also tallied two runs for the contest on three hits and four at bats. Beuthien's three hits against Texas A&M Kingsville were all singles. Both runs came in the fourth and sixth innings.
NEXT UP
The Lady Chaps will now focus on the Tucson Invitational that begins on Friday Feb. 17. Their first game in the tournament will be against Dixie State University. First pitch is slated for 10:30 am in Tucson, Ariz.
