TUCSON, Ariz. (February 19, 2017) – Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps closed out play in the Second Annual D2 Cactus Classic in Tucson, Ariz. with an 8-2 victory over Fort Lewis Sunday morning.
MULTIPLE
Four Lady Chaps (14-2) had multiple hits in the game as LCU outhit Fort Lewis (1-8) 11 to eight. The Skyhawks got on the scoreboard first plating a run in the second inning. The Lady Chaps would not respond until the top of the fourth inning when
Haley Hardison drove in
Sydney Beuthien.
Averi Miller's shot to left field brought home
Alyssa Hanks followed by
Courtney Medina's double to left that scored
Annika Schwartzenberg putting LCU up 3-1.
INSURANCE
LCU added a run in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Hanks to plate
Lindzi Clemmer. Then followed with two more runs in the sixth inning when Medina tripled to bring home Miller and
Casey Ingram drove in Medina. The Lady Chaps would add two additional insurance runs in the seventh with Beuthien hitting a bomb over the centerfield fence to leadoff the inning before Schwartzenberg doubled to score Hanks. Fort Lewis added a run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 8-2.

Monique Garcia (5-2) went the distance striking out seven Skyhawks while allowing only one earned run on her way to her fifth victory of the season. Fort Lewis started Kelley Decker (0-3) who went six innings allowing seven runs on nine hits before giving way to Olivia Bratt who pithed the final inning giving up one run on two hits.
