Box Score 2 PORTALES, N.M. (February 21, 2017) – Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals used 13 extra-base hits, five of which were home runs, to sweep Eastern New Mexico 15-3 and 13-3 in the doubleheader at Greyhound Field in Portales on Tuesday.
SINGLE-SINGLE-DOUBLE
In game one, LCU (16-2) scored all 15 runs in three innings, with each inning starting the same way: a single followed by a single followed by a double. The Lady Chaps plated four runs in the second inning when
Alyssa Hanks led off the inning followed by a single from
Katera Eltsosie and a double from
Addison Ard, which scored Hanks. Ard would score on a wild pitch before pinch hitter
Haley Hardison drove in
Annika Schwartzenberg and
Averi Miller to put Lubbock Christian up 4-0.
H-ARD
The Greyhounds (8-11) got two runs across in the third inning before the Lady Chaps answered with five more in the fifth inning. Clemmer led off the fifth inning with a single up the middle followed by a
Sydney Beuthien single through the right side, which set up a double off the bat of Hanks to get Clemmer home. Eltsosie drove in Beuthien followed by a bomb by Ard plating herself, Hanks and Eltsosie to put LCU up 9-2.
SUBS
Six Lady Chaps subbed in to pinch hit or run in the sixth inning and they were able to add six more runs to their total. Clemmer led off the top of the sixth inning with a single deep in the hole to the shortstop before Beuthien singled to left field. Adele Vayas followed with a double to score both Clemmer and Beuthien.
Cassie Sutton hit a three-run rocket over the center filed fence to bring herself, Ard and
Shelby Welch home. A double to left field off the bat of
Casey Ingram would score
Logan Grado to put the Lady Chaps ahead 15-2. The Greyhounds would add a run in the bottom of the sixth before the game ended via the mercy rule.
IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie (8-0) started in the circle for LCU going five innings and allowing one earned run off five hits while striking out three batters to earn her eighth victory of the season.
Cassie Sutton came in to pitch the sixth inning for the Lady Chaps allowing one run on two hits. Kaylee Rogers (5-5) got the start for the Greyhounds going 4.1 innings and giving up nine runs on 11 hits before giving way to Tristen Castaneda, who took the reigns for the final 1.2 innings for ENMU.
LEADOFF
Lady Chap leadoff batter
Courtney Medina went a perfect 4-for-4 in game two, starting in the first inning with a leadoff single to centerfield. Beuthien would hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Medina to put LCU on the scoreboard first. A Medina singe to left-center field would get the Lady Chaps started in the third inning. It was followed by a double off the bat of Ingram that scored Medina. Clemmer immediately followed with a shot through the right side that brought Ingram home to put LCU up 3-0. The Greyhounds answered in the bottom half of the third inning with a three-run home run from Erikka Burke to tie the game 3-3.
SYD
A two-run home run from
Sydney Beuthien in the fifth inning would break the tie when Beuthien and Ingram scored. Then in the sixth inning, Lubbock Christian would break things open plating eight runs. Medina doubled scoring Miller and Welch. Then, Beuthien hit her second bomb in as many at bats plating three more runs with herself, Medina and Clemmer scoring. Grado doubled to bring in Vayas before pinch-hitter
Sondra Samaniego hit a two-run shot over the scoreboard to put the Lady Chaps on top 13-3.
CIRCLE TIME
Monique Garcia (6-2) started in the circle for LCU going the distance by allowing three runs off three hits and striking out seven Greyhounds. Kiana Zerr (1-3) pitched the first 5.1 innings for ENMU. She suffered her third loss of the year giving up 10 runs on 15 hits. Katie Ripple came in and faced three batters allowing three runs off two hits without recording an out. She eventually gave way to Tristen Castaneda, who got the final two outs not allowing a hit.

The Lady Chaps will take the next week to get everyone healthy before they continue their play on the road traveling to Odessa to face the University of Texas of the Permian Basin Tuesday, with the first game scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start. All the action can be found at www.lcuchaps.com.
