LUBBOCK, Texas (February 25, 2017) - No.12 Lubbock Christian University bounced back from a 12-5 deficit in Saturday's opener with a 7-3 win to split a doubleheader against Colorado State University - Pueblo at Hays Field.

CSU-Pueblo got onto the Chaps early in the opening game, scoring runs in each of the first four innings. They held Chaps starting pitcher
Christian Marquez (2-2) to two innings of work, as he allowed 12 hits leading to eight runs. The ThunderWolves had a five-run third inning to jump out to 9-2 lead and were able to keep their distance. CSU-P produced 18 hits in the game with 17 of the hits resulting in singles. Brandon Castaneda, Gilbert Sauceda and Ambrose Romero each had three-hit games for CSU-P. Despite outscored by seven runs, LCU did produce 13 hits and was led at the plate by
Ryan Rogers, who was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI. Of LCU's 13 hits, eight came in two-out at-bats. Josh Nuernberg claimed the win in relief (2-1) for the T-Wolves. He went five innings of relief and allowed three runs off 10 hits.

The CSU-P hit parade came to an end in the second game, as
Russell Reber claimed LCU's first complete game on the mound. He went seven innings and held the T-Wolves to four hits. He allowed three runs (two earned) and improved to 3-0 on the season. He received run support early, as LCU scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and added a run in the second and third innings before a three-run sixth.
Brandon Rix led LCU with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate and
Tony Reyes added a pair of RBI.
The Chaps moved to 9-6 with the doubleheader split, while CSU-P had their record go to 6-7. The Chaparrals will try to even the four game series Sunday, with a nine-inning starting at 1 p.m. at Hays Field.
