LUBBOCK, Texas (February 3, 2017) - Lubbock Christian started the season with a walk-off, 10-1 run-ruled victory over Regis University and followed it with an 8-0 run-ruled shutout of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
FAST START
LCU (2-0) opened the day against Regis University (0-1) and jumped out to an early lead when Addison Ard singled to left field to score Courtney Medina and Casey Ingram
PULLING AWAY
The Lady Chaps pulled away from the Rangers in the fourth inning with an Alyssa Hanks single up the middle that plated Lindzi Clemmer and Adelae Vayas. Senior Roxy Curiel followed with a shot through the left side to score Annika Schwartzenberg. Pinch hitter, Haley Hardison drove in the final run of the inning to bring in Hanks.
WALK OFF
In the bottom of the fifth inning after Medina and Ingram each drove in a run to put the Lady Chaps up 8-1 Sydney Beuthien came to the plate with two outs and sent a bomb over the centerfield fence for the walk-off run-ruled victory.
IN THE CIRCLE
LCU starting pitcher Katlyn Holmes (1-0) was quite impressive in her 2017 allowing only one run off six hits striking three out along the way. Taylor Armitage took the loss for the Rangers lasting three innings allowing six runs off nine hits.
MORE OF THE SAME
Game two of the day for the Lady Chaps was against former Heartland Conference foe University of Texas of the Permian Basin (0-2). LCU scored four runs off five hits in the first inning to take an early lead. Beuthien started the scoring driving in Medina and was followed by an Addison Ard homerun that plated two more before Hanks' triple drove in the last run of the inning.
MORE BEUTHIEN
Medina doubled up the middle to score Averi Miller then Clemmer drove in Medina before the Era, Texas native Sydney Beuthien doubled to score Clemmer in the second inning. Beuthien doubled again in the fourth inning to once again score Clemmer and put LCU up 8-0.
ALMOST PERFECT
Newcomer Monique Garcia's (1-0) LCU debut was terrific facing only two batters over the minimum allowing only one walk and one hit striking out six in the shutout victory. Falcons starter Kylee Foster (0-1) lasted only two-thirds of an inning allowing four runs off five hits before giving way to Randi May who went the rest of the way giving up another four runs on five additional hits.
PERFECT
The Lady Chaps are now 21-0 all-time in opening day games in their tenth season.

The Lady Chaps will continue tournament play with one game Saturday against Northwestern Oklahoma State University at 2:30 p.m.
