Sara Ralston's grand slam led the way to a 15-2 run-rule victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University in the 2017 Lady Chaps Invitational Saturday at
PlainsCapital Park.
BEHIND EARLY
Northwestern Oklahoma State (0-3) jumped out to an early lead when the second batter of the game
homered over the
centerfield fence to put the Rangers up 1-0, before the Lady Chaps (3-0) unleashed a barrage of hits in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs off five hits. They came with Sydney
Beuthien driving in
Courtney Medina and
Casey Ingram,
Katera Eltsosie driving in
Lindzi Clemmer and Sydney
Beuthien then
Addison Ard scoring on a wild pitch.
BON VOYAGE
After the Rangers added another run in the top of the second inning, LCU sent a couple more balls on a vacation with Ard plating two runs, with her bomb, then followed by a grand slam by
Sara Ralston to put the Lady Chaps up 11-2.
TEAM EFFORT
In the fourth inning,
Adelae Vayas singled through the right side to bring home Medina and Ingram. Brea
Varnell followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Cassie Sutto, and
Vayas later scored on a passed ball completing a day in which 18 Lady Chaps participated to combine for a total of 17 hits.
IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie (1-0) went four and a third innings allowing only two runs while striking out four.
Jalena Arthur (0-1) only lasted one inning for
NWOSU allowing nine runs on seven hits walking four.
WRAP-UP
LCU will wrap up play in the 2017 Lady Chap Invitational with a 1:00 p.m. game versus Northwestern Oklahoma State followed by a 3:00 p.m. matchup with Regis.
