LUBBOCK, Texas (February 5, 2017) – The Lady Chaps were victorious in both games on Sunday taking Northwestern Oklahoma State 14-4 and Regis 7-5 to complete the 2017 Lady Chap Invitational undefeated.
EARLY
LCU (5-0) only managed to get one run in the first inning after leadoff batter
Courtney Medina drew a walk then stole second base before stealing third base.
Casey Ingram then shot a laser through the left side to bring Medina home.
FLOODGATES
The Lady Chaps opened the floodgates in the second inning scoring 13 runs on 11 hits aided by three Ranger errors. Sending 19 batters to the plate Lubbock Christian only had two extra-base hits on the way to a 14-0 lead.
IN THE CIRCLE
Starter
Katlyn Holmes (2-0) went four inning allowing only one run while striking out two before giving way to
Allie Calderon who pitched the final inning for the Lady Chaps allowing three runs on three hits striking out one. NWOSU (0-5) sent Madison Garza (0-2) to the circle where she lasted only one and a third innings giving up seven runs on eight hits before being relieved by Jalena Arthur who went the final two and two third innings giving up an additional seven runs on nine hits.
TWO OUT RALLY
In the first inning of game two after two batters the Lady Chaps found themselves in a two-out hole when
Lindzi Clemmer singled,
Sydney Beuthien singled then
Addison Ard doubled scoring both Clemmer and Beuthien.
Annika Schwartzenberg drove in Ard and
Alyssa Hanks doubled scoring Schwartzenberg putting LCU on top 4-0. Clemmer's shot to right field in the second inning plated Medina giving the Lady Chaps a 5-0 lead.
REGIS RANGER RALLY
Regis (4-2) scored a run in the fourth inning, three in the sixth and another one in the seventh to rally back in put pressure on Lubbock Christian.
Monique Garcia (2-0) got the start in the circle going five and two-third innings before finding herself in a jam with the tying run at the plate. Coach
Daren Hays brought in game one winner
Katlyn Holmes to get the final four outs earning her 1
st save of the year. Logan Losh (3-1) started for the Rangers and went five innings allowing seven runs on 10 hits.
2017 LADY CHAP INVITATIONAL NOTEABLES
Courtney Medina went 6-for-9 at the plate and was 7-for-7 on stolen bases.
Addison Ard was 7-for-11 driving in nine runs with two home runs.
Sydney Beuthien was 8-for-15 driving in nine runs with a home run.
