LUBBOCK, Texas (February 8, 2017) – Three Lubbock Christian University pitchers combined for a one-hit shutout and
Annika Schwartzenberg's inside-the-park home run helped the Lady Chaparrals pull out a 2-0 victory over Colorado Christian at PlainsCapital Park on Wednesday.
TWO AWAY
LCU (6-0) only managed to score two runs in the contest, with each coming with two outs in the inning. In the second inning, pinch hitter
Haley Hardison drew a bases-loaded walk to get the Lady Chaps on the board. In the second inning, Schwartzenberg, the freshman first baseman from Amarillo, Texas, lined a shot through the right side that went all the way to the corner, allowing Schwartzenberg to make the round trip for an inside-the-park home run and the final run scored in the contest.
STAFF DAY
Three Lady Chaps took part in the action in the circle for LCU to secure the shutout.
Katera Eltsosie (2-0) got the start and went three innings, allowing the only hit of the game from Colorado Christian (4-3). Eltsosie struck out four on her way to her second victory of the season.
Monique Garcia pitched the next two innings, striking out another two before
Katlyn Holmes came in to finish out the last two innings facing the minimum. She struck out two securing her second save of the year.
STREAKS
Even though Lubbock Christian only managed five hits off the Cougars, both Schwartzenberg and
Alyssa Hanks kept their hit-streaks alive as both have hit successfully in all six games this season. In addition to those two,
Courtney Medina,
Lindzi Clemmer and
Sydney Beuthien have all successfully reached base in all six games this year.
OH BROTHER
LCU head coach
Daren Hays is one-up on little brother Shanon. The meeting marked the first time the two brothers have faced each other in a regular season game. Shanon, who was the first ever coach at LCU and coached the 2008 NAIA National Championship squad before heading to coach Texas Tech, is in his first season coaching Colorado Christian, who are off to a 4-3 start.
