Beuthien’s Bombs Blast Lady Chaps to Sweep

Sydney Beuthien’s three home runs on the day lead LCU to a doubleheader sweep of UTPB.

ODESSA, Texas (April 10, 2017) – Three longballs off the bat of junior outfielder Sydney Beuthien led the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals to a 3-1 and 10-2 doubleheader sweep of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin Falcons in Odessa at the UTPB Softball Field Monday.

ONE
The Lady Chaps (26-14) got on the scoreboard first, three batters into the game, as Sydney Beuthien came to the plate with two outs and hit a ball over the left field fence and into the UTPB (8-33) bullpen. The Lady Chaps would add another run in the second inning, as Addison Ard doubled to center field with two outs and it was followed by a shot by Annika Schwartzenberg to center field to bring in Ard.

TWO
With two outs in the seventh inning, Beuthien blasted a ball off the scoreboard for her second homer of the game and put LCU up 3-0. The Falcons were able to get one run in the bottom half of the seventh inning when Ashlynn Williams was able to drive in Daisy Aguilar.

IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie (13-5) started in the circle for LCU, going six innings and allowing one run off three hits. She struck out six batters to notch her 13th win of the season. Katlyn Holmes (5) pitched the final inning, facing the minimum, to earn her fifth save of the year. Sloan Springfield (0-6) got the start for the Falcons and went the distance. She gave up three runs on ten hits, suffering her sixth loss of 2017.

OFFENSIVE
The Lady Chaps started game two by sending all nine batters in the lineup to the plate in the first inning. Lindzi Clemmer would drive in Courtney Medina to get the scoring started. Logan Grado hit a ball up the middle to plate Clemmer and Beuthien and Haley Hardison would score off the bat of Schwartzenberg to put LCU up 4-0 after one inning of play.

THREE
With Medina at second base and Clemmer at first base in the second inning, Beuthien came to the plate and hit a three-run rocket off the top of the scoreboard for her third home run of the day. The Falcons managed to get two runs across in the bottom half of the second inning before LCU responded with another three runs in the third inning, which started with Averi Miller doubling to left centerfield to score Sara Ralston from first base. A two-run home run by Clemmer over the center field fence would cap the scoring and allow for the run-rule victory.

IN THE CIRCLE
Katlyn Holmes (5-3) started in the circle for LCU. She pitched the complete game by allowing two runs on four hits. Holmes struck out a pair of batters to earn her fifth victory this season. Chelsae Faries (3-9) got the start for Permian Basin, but was unable to record an out.  She gave up four runs off two hits and walked two batters before giving way to Kylee Foster, who went 2.1 innings allowing six runs off seven hits.
