One-Hitter Completes Sweep

Chase Simmons Had a Four-Hit Performance to Assist the Chaps Offensive Display

GOODWELL, Okla. (April 14, 2017) – Russell Reber, EJ Ramos, Nathan Dockery and Nick Hooper combined for a one-hitter and Chase Simmons produced four of the team's 15 hits, as No.8 Lubbock Christian University cruised to a 9-0 road win at Oklahoma Panhandle State Friday at Aggie Field to complete a three-game Heartland Conference sweep.

Reber lasted six of the innings and faced two batters over the minimum. He had a no-hitter for the opening 5.1 innings, not allowing a hit to the first 17 batters he faced. Chris Casias produced the Aggies lone hit and it was the only one allowed by Reber and the Chaps. Ramos, Dockery and Hooper each pitched a flawless inning in relief. Overall, the Chaps staff faced three batters over the minimum in nine innings. Reber received the win to improve to 8-1. Josh Casillas suffered the loss for OPSU (1-5), as he allowed six runs (three earned) off eight hits in three innings.

The Chaps offensive damage was conducted in a pair of innings. LCU had six consecutive batters reach base safely in the third inning, as nine batters went to the plate in the inning. Brent Stewart's single drove in a pair of Chaps and capped a six-run inning. Caleb Koedyker led off the fifth inning and was immediately driven home by Simmons, who started the scoring in a three-run fifth inning. The trio of runs provided LCU a 9-0 lead.

Simmons went 4-for-6 and was one of nine Chaps to have at least one hit in the game. All four hits for Simmons were singles, as LCU produced 13 singles. He joined Stewart with a game high two RBI. Ryan Rogers (2-for-5), Logan Nethercot (2-for-5) and Koedyker (2-for-4) each had multi-hit performances.

The one-hitter was the first completed this season by the Chaps and the first since Guillaume Blanchette held Angelo State to one hit on Feb. 20, 2016. The win places LCU with a 29-10 record and a 12-3 conference mark. OPSU falls to 8-32 overall and 1-14 in conference. LCU returns home Friday to host Newman for a three-game Heartland Conference series.
