LAREDO, Texas (April 28, 2017) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals shutout Texas A&M International 7-0 in game one before falling 1-0 in game two to split the doubleheader on a 101-degree day Friday at the Dustdevil Softball Field on the TAMIU campus in Laredo, Texas.
EARLY
Two batters into the game and the Lady Chaps (34-16) were on the scoreboard. After
Courtney Medina led off with a bunt single followed by a double to left field by
Casey Ingram to score Medina.
Lindzi Clemmer would drive in Ingram to put LCU up 2-0. Lubbock Christian would get two more runs in the third inning off back-to-back solo home runs by
Sydney Beuthien and
Katera Eltsosie. Three runs in the fifth inning would complete the scoring for LCU with Ingram scoring on a wild pitch before
Haley Hardison drove in Eltsosie and Clemmer.
SHUTOUT
Katera Eltsosie (17-5) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps and went five innings allowing no runs off only two hits on way to her 17
th victory this season. Moniques Garcia came in to pitch the final two innings keeping the shutout intact only allowing two hits herself. Sara Caterson (5-9) got the start for TAMIU pitching 4.2 innings giving up seven runs on seven hits while walking five to suffer her ninth loss of the year. Tori Carrion came in to pitch the final 2.1 innings not giving up any runs on four hits.
ONE
Game two saw two marvelous performances by both starting pitchers with only seven hits in the game, five by the Lady Chaps and only two by the Dustdevils (18-32). The lone run of the game would come in the bottom of the sixth inning when Dustdevil shortstop Brenda Parnin doubled to right field. Coach Scott Libby then put in a pinch runner for Parnin who advanced to third on a wild pitch then scored off the bat of Cassie Cannon.
PITCHER'S DUEL
Katlyn Holmes (7-5) started for the Lady Chaps in the circle going the distance allowing the one run off only two hits to suffer her fifth loss of 2017. Delainy Thompson (12-13) got the start for TAMIU and also went the distance not giving up any runs off five hits to earn her 12
th win this year.
