Offensive Barrage Leads to Grand Win for Lady Chaps

Averi Miller’s grand slam helps LCU to a big win over Lady Eagles.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (April 7, 2017) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals used 12 hits to lead them to an 11-1 run-ruled victory over the Lady Eagles of Oklahoma Christian at Tom Heath Field on the OC campus Saturday.
 
EARLY
The Lady Chaps (24-14) jumped on top first scoring four runs in the top of the third inning with the first two runs coming off a throwing error by the Lady Eagle third baseman that allowed Sara Ralston and Averi Miller to come home. Two batters later Katera Eltsosie doubled to drive in Courtney Medina and Casey Ingram.
 
EXCHANGE
In the bottom of the third inning Oklahoma Christian (26-17) plated a run when Haley Squier singled to left field bringing Kaylie Upton in to make the score 4-1. LCU would get the run back in the top of the fourth inning as Medina hit a sacrifice fly to score Addison Ard.
 
GRAND
In the top of the sixth the Lady Chaps faced three different pitchers scoring another six runs. With the bases loaded Miller hit a grand slam home run over the left field fence scoring Lindzi Clemmer, Ard, Ralston and herself before Eltsosie later doubled to plate two more runs with Sydney Beuthien and Medina coming home.  
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Monique Garcia (8-6) started in the circle for LCU going five innings allowing only one run off five hits while striking out four to earn her eighth win of the season. Katlyn Holmes pitched the final inning facing the minimum. Madison Hagood (12-8) got the start for OC going 3.1 innings giving up only five run off seven hits to suffer her eighth loss of the year. Madison Nordyke went 2.1 innings in relief allowing four runs on three hits before giving way to Kayla Eichler who came in to get the final out giving up two runs on two hits.

The Lady Chaps will continue play on the road going to Odessa Monday, April 10 to play the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in a doubleheader to make up for the games postponed earlier this season due to inclement weather.
