Chaps Unable to Rally Late, Falling 2-1 in Home Opener

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
• Lubbock Christian University fell to 0-3-0 on the season following a 2-1 loss to University of the Southwest in the Chaps 2017 home opener Wednesday afternoon.
Abdou Joof, who previously attended the University of The Gambia, scored LCU's first goal of the season.
• LCU placed six shots on target for the day, with Andres Ramirez leading LCU with two shots on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• University of the Southwest struck first in the 70th minute after stealing the ball away from LCU keeper Diego Goiabeira and finishing on an open net.
• Robel Yemane struck eight minutes later for USW with an assist coming from Trevor Stovall.
• In the 79th minute, LCU sophomore Abdou Joof converted a header off of a pass from Richie Vaca-Cordova.

GAME NOTES
• The loss drops the Chaparrals to a 0-3-0 record to begin the year for the second season in row.
• LCU holds a 6-2-0 record in home openers since their inaugural 2010 season. Five of their wins, as well as two of their losses, have come against University of the Southwest.
• Lubbock Christian's series advantage over the Mustangs now stands at 6-2-0 all-time.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
275:26: Lubbock Christian's goal marks their first in a total of 275:26 played. The scoring drought dipped back to the final game of the 2016 season, a 3-1 win over UT-Permian Basin (10/29/16).

UP NEXT
Lubbock Christian will now gear up for their final non-conference match against Adams State University Sunday, Sept. 10. The game will be held on LCU Soccer Field at 1 p.m. LCU holds a 2-0-0 series advantage over the Grizzlies and the contest will mark the first showdown on Lubbock Christian's home field.
