LCU HIGHLIGHTS
- Lubbock Christian University proved victorious Thursday afternoon in a 2-1 thriller over Newman University at LCU Soccer Field.
- The Chaps recorded both goals from set-piece situations including a game-winner in the final two minutes from
Fernando Flores.
- Lubbock Christian logged 11 shots for the day with four landing on target. All four of their shots on goal came from within their starting lineup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Newman opened up the scoring for the afternoon on a finish from Carlos Rubio Garcia in the 50
thminute.

Emilio Marti made sure that Newman's lead was short-lived as the junior took a free kick at the 49:36 mark that found the upper right corner bringing the score to 1-1.
- With the clock ticking and time running out, Newman was whistled for committing a hand ball inside the box. The result of the play was a penalty kick opportunity for Lubbock Christian's Flores who found the net with 1:04 remaining in the contest.
GAME NOTES
- Marti's goal creates a two-game scoring streak for the junior which began against University of Texas – Permian Basin (Oct. 6).
- Flores' game-winning goal marks the first penalty kick attempt for the Chaparrals of the 2018 season.
- Following the winning result, LCU moves to a 6-3-3 overall record and a 4-2-3 record in Heartland Conference standings.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
7: There were a season-high seven cards handed out throughout the contest. Newman found themselves on the receiving end of five yellows and one red card over the 90-minute stretch.
UP NEXT
Lubbock Christian will now take a day of rest before returning to the pitch to host Rogers State University Saturday, Oct. 13. The tilt against the Hillcats will serve as Senior Day for the Chaps. Additionally, it will also serve as LCU's regular-season home finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
