Chaps Look To Close Regular Season With a Winning Streak

LCU Looks For First Win Over UTPB Since 2016

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY (8-5-3, 6-4-3) at
UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS OF THE PERMIAN BASIN (1-15-1, 0-12-1)
Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 – 1:00 p.m.

- Saturday afternoon's game in Odessa has the West Division leading Chaparrals facing UTPB to wrap up the regular season schedule.
- The Chaparrals are 8-5-3 this season, looking to close the regular season on a two-game win streak after a huge 2-1 win Thursday to clinch the West Division and their first Heartland Conference Tournament berth.
- LCU not only closes the regular season Saturday, but they close a four-game road trip. The Chaps are 4-3-1 this season in road games (1-5-2 last season on the road).

STORY LINES
- Lubbock Christian ranks second in the Heartland Conference and 14th nationally in save percentage with a mark of .820 on the season. A vital statistic, as LCU has been out-shot in their last eight consecutive games played (LCU has not produced more shots on goal than their opponents in their last 11 games).
- There are six teams in the Heartland Conference within two standing points of each other, meaning many factors could take place Saturday in deciding the Heartland Conference Tournament seeding. The tournament is a six-team tournament with the top two seeds qualifying to the final site (slated for Midwestern State to host). The remaining four seeds will play an opening round contest, with the No.3 and No.4 seeded teams serving as host teams. The opening round contests are scheduled for Tuesday.
- LCU ranks second in the Heartland Conference in fewest yellow cards with 22 on the season.
- Braxton Thorne co-leads the Heartland Conference in shutouts (6, tied for 22nd nationally), goalie minutes played (1528:01, 10th nationally) and is 15th nationally in save percentage with a mark that is second in the Heartland Conference (.820).
- Conner Dean is coming off a two-goal performance Thursday at Eastern New Mexico, which included his team-leading second game winning goal of the season. The performance marked his first career multi-goal game with the Chaps.

SCOUTING UTPB
- Texas – Permian Basin's lone win this season came in a non-conference contest against Adams State University. Since then, the Falcons have been winless in 14 straight games (0-13-1). Their lone game with a standing point in the streak was in a 3-3 tie with LCU on Oct. 6.
- UTPB's top statistical ranking in the Heartland Conference comes in saves, with the Falcons ranking second with 5.81 saves per game (31st nationally).
- The Falcon defense has neglected to complete a shutout this season. They are one of 14 teams in all of NCAA Division II that have not recorded a shutout this season.
- Oscar Canela leads UTPB in goals with five. He had one against LCU in the prior meeting, but has not scored in four games played since, which is his longest scoreless sequence of the season.
- There has been a mix of three goalkeepers for the Falcons this season, as they have four keepers with at least 200 minutes played and three with at least 20 saves on the season.

SERIES HISTORY WITH UTPB
Lubbock Christian holds a 6-3-2 record all-time against the Falcons in a series that stretches back to the 2013 season. Despite LCU having the historical upper hand, UTPB is unbeaten in the prior three meetings (2-0-1), including a 3-3 tie in the previous meeting (Oct. 6) and a 1-0 win on Oct. 21, 2017 in the previous meeting in Odessa. Oct. 29, 2016 (3-1) marked LCU's last win in the series (game played in Odessa).
