Chaps Edge Orediggers to Open Season With a Win

LCU Claims Their First-Ever Win Over Mines

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (November 9, 2018) - Rashaan Procter led Lubbock Christian University with 16 points and LCU's Brennan Fowler contributed 14 points and nine rebounds, as the Chaparrals opened the 2018-19 season with a 70-62 win over Colorado School of Mines Friday at St Mary's University's Bill Greehey Arena.

Statistics are unofficial due to technical difficulties, but LCU benefited off a 14-7 scoring surge, capped by a three-pointer by Silas Crisler, midway through the second half to take a 62-51 lead. Earlier in the contest, Crisler had provided LCU a 23-22 lead (with 3:19 left in the first half) with a free-throw, and LCU never trailed once taking the lead. They led 27-26 at the half.

Rashaan Proctor opened the second half scoring for his first first of 12 points in the second half. He also had five rebounds in the second half and closed the game with a team-leading 16 points. Brennen Fowler (14 points, 9 rebounds) and Crisler (12 points, 7 rebounds) joined Proctor in double figures for LCU. Crisler was 3-for-3 from three-point range.

The Chaps were 51.6% from the field in the second half and shot 49.1% (28/57) from the field in the game. They held CSM to nine field goals (9/26) in the first half. The Orediggers knocked down eight three-pointers in the game and they received a game-high 19 points from Brendan Sullivan. They also received 17 points from Mason Baker.

The game was the season opener for both squads. LCU opens 1-0 for the third time in now eight season openers under head coach Todd Duncan. It marks their first season opening win since 2015. LCU continues their San Antonio stay Saturday facing Regis (Colo.) at 5 p.m.
