Lady Chaps Ground Jets for Friday Sweep

Morgan Dufour hits three home runs on the day.

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 16, 2018) – Morgan Dufour hit two home runs and KK Lopez-Lui hit another in game one to lift Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals to a 4-0 victory over Newman in game one before Dufour hit her third home run of the day in game two to lead LCU to a 8-1 victory and sweep Friday at PlainsCapital Park.
 
GOING DEEP
Morgan Dufour led off the second inning with a bomb to center field and put LCU (16-9, 7-6) on the scoreboard. In the fourth inning KK Lopez-Lui hit a shot over the left centerfield fence to give the Lady Chaps a 2-0 lead. Megan Darling led off the sixth inning with a base hit to left field and Morgan Dufour followed with a rocket into the teeth of the 19 MPH wind for her second home run of the game (10th of the year).
 
SHUTOUT
Monique Francois (10-3) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps getting the complete game shutout striking out seven Jets on the way to her 10th victory of the year. Chantel Purcella (1-8) got the start for Newman going the distance giving up four runs on six hits while striking out four batters to suffer her eighth loss of the season.
 
EARLY
The Lady Chaps jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with three runs in the first inning starting with a Lindzi Clemmer double to drive in Courtney Medina then Sydney Beuthien doubled to center field bringing home Clemmer before Lopez-Lui hit a ball up the middle to score Beuthien. Newman (5-25, 2-13) answered with a run in the top of the second inning when Emma Eck scored off the bat of Erin Jankiewicz.
 
INSURANCE
Pinch hitter Logan Grado drew a bases-loaded walk to score Lopez-Lui in the third inning followed by a base hit from Casey Ingram plating Annika Schwartzenberg and Adelae Vayas. Beuthien led off the fourth inning with a double to left center followed immediately by another home run off the bat of Dufour (third of the day, 11th of the season).
 
NEWBIE
Freshman Amber Carlton (4-2) was tabbed as the game two starter for the Lady Chaps throwing her first complete game allowing only one run and striking out five to notch her fourth victory of her career. Bailey Bugner (2-7) started in the circle for Newman throwing two innings and giving up four runs on six hits to suffer her seventh loss of 2018. Nique Payne pitched the final four innings in relief giving up another four runs on six hits.
 
WRAP-UP
