LAREDO, Texas (March 27, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals shutout Texas A&M International 6-0 in the opening game of a doubleheader before being no-hit and falling 1-0 in the second game for a split Tuesday at Dustdevil Softball Field in Laredo.
HOMERUN
In game one, the Lady Chaps (20-10, 9-7) scored three runs in the first inning with a single by
Lindzi Clemmer before
Sydney Beuthien was hit by a pitch leading up to a
Morgan Dufour bomb over the left field fence to score all three. In the fourth inning, pinch hitter
Haley Hardison drove a ball up the middle to score K'leigh Aredondo and
Averi Miller. Clemmer scored from third base on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning for an insurance run.
SHUTOUT
Monique Francois (14-3) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps, throwing a complete game shutout and and allowing three hits. The shutout was her fifth shutout of the season and her 14
th victory. Melanie Lint (6-8) got the start for TAMIU throwing the first 6.2 innings giving up six runs on nine hits to suffer her eighth loss of the year.
HITLESS
In game two, Texas A&M International (14-25, 11-10) held the Lady Chaps hitless for only the second time in the history of the program and the second time this season. Maddison Schofield scored in the sixth inning off the bat of Sara Caterson for the lone run of the game. Caterson's decisive hit came with two outs on a hit down the left field line that hit right on the line.
IN THE CIRCLE
Amber Carlton (4-3) started in the circle in game two for Lubbock Christian, throwing five innings and allowing one run on five hits to suffer her third loss of the year.
Monique Francois came in to relieve Carlton with two runners on and no outs in the sixth inning. The one hit she allowed was to Caterson. Delainy Thompson (6-10) registered the no-hitter for the Dustdevils, throwing all seven innings to earn the her sixth victory. She faced one batter over the minimum. The no-hitter was her first and the first in TAMIU program history. LCU's only other prior time suffering a no-hitter was Feb. 17 in Tucson, Ariz. Against No.9 Dixie State.
EASTER
