Lady Chaps Sweep Rattlers

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 3, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals shutout Heartland Conference leading St. Mary's 5-0 in game one before taking game two 6-5 to sweep the Rattlers Tuesday at PlainsCapital Park.
 
EARLY
The Lady Chaps (22-10, 11-7) scored five runs in the first inning with leadoff batter Megan Darling drawing a walk followed by Lindzi Clemmer's double to right center drive in Darling. Morgan Dufour lined a shot into right field to plate Clemmer. KK Lopez-Lui was hit by a pitch before Sara Ralston doubled down the left field line to score Dufour and Lopez-Lui.
 
SHUTOUT
Monique Francois (15-3) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps throwing all seven innings allowing no runs and only three hits to shutout the Rattlers for her sixth shutout of the season and 15th victory. Alex McLennan (2-4) got the start for StMU throwing all six innings giving up five runs on seven hits to suffer her fourth loss of the year.
 
TWO OUTS
In game two LCU jumped out to an early lead scoring four runs in the second inning starting with a two out line drive to center field by pinch hitter Haley Hardison to drive in Adelae Vayas and Dufour. Clemmer followed with a shot to right center filed bring in Courtney Medina and Averi Miller.
 
BEHIND
St. Mary's (27-14, 15-4) took the lead in the fifth inning getting five runs with three coming via bases-loaded walks. The other two runs were driven in by Marcela Vasquez to put the Rattlers up 5-4. In the fifth inning with two outs the Lady Chaps third baseman K'leigh Arredondo doubled to left field driving in Darling and Lopez-Lui.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Amber Carlton started in the circle in game two for Lubbock Christian throwing 4.2 innings allowing five runs on two hits while walking four before giving way to game one starter, Monique Francois  (16-3) who pitched the final 2.1 innings not allowing any runs and only three hits to notch her 16th win of 2018. Hope Russell (10-4) pitched the entire game for St. Mary's giving up six runs on six hits to suffer her fourth loss of the year.
