Sydney Beuthien before winning game two 8-0 by the mercy-rule with a walk-off triple by senior
Averi Miller Tuesday at PlainsCapital Park.
WALK-OFFS
LCU (13-5) have played the Falcons (8-16) three times this season with all three ending in an LCU victory and ending via a walk-off hit.
ITB
At the end of regulation in game one both teams were scoreless. Since the game was a non-conference matchup the International Tie Breaker (ITB) rule was in effect going into the eighth inning. UTPB managed to get the runner placed at second around and home in the top half of the eighth inning to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning
Lindzi Clemmer hit a ball up the middle to score
Averi Miller who was placed at second base to start the inning via ITB.
Sydney Beuthien immediately followed with a ball up the middle as well bringing in Clemmer and giving LCU the victory.
CIRCLE
Monique Francois (8-2) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps going the distance allowing only the one unearned run off four hits while striking out six Falcons on her way to her eighth victory this year. Maritza Rojas (4-4) got the start for UTPB also throwing the complete game giving up two runs on seven hits and striking out seven Lady Chaps to suffer her fourth loss of the season.
DIFFERENT STORY
In game two the Lady Chaps jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with Clemmer doubling off the top of the center field fence followed by
Morgan Dufour hitting a double off the left field fence to plate Clemmer.
Annika Schwartzenberg hit a shot through the left side to drive in Dufour and Schwartzenberg scored on a dropped fly ball off the bat of
KK Lopez-Lui. In the fourth inning LCU added another run when
Adelae Vayas scored on a throwing error by the Falcon third baseman.
MERCY RULE
Up 4-0 Lubbock Christian scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to win via the mercy rule. With two outs the inning was extended when the Falcon first baseman mufed a throw allowing Dufour and Beuthien to score before Miller tripled to right field plating Vayas and
Sara Ralston to end the game.
SHUTOUT
Freshman
Amber Carlton (3-0) was tabbed to start game two in the circle for LCU throwing a complete game shutout for her first of her college career only allowing four hits to earn her third victory of 2018. Sloan Springfield (1-7) started in the circle for UTPB throwing 3.1 innings giving up four runs on five hits for her seventh loss of the year. Aubree Avila threw 0.2 inning of relief allowing two runs and walking two Lady Chaps before Cindy Juarez pitched the last two outs allowing the final two runs on two hits.
