Lady Chaps Find Their Offense

Lindzi Clemmer’s 10 RBI’s on the day help keep LCU perfect against ENMU

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 23, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals scored 25 runs on 23 hits to sweep Eastern New Mexico 10-2 and 15-7 in a Monday doubleheader at PlainsCapital Park. Lindzi Clemmer was 5-for-8 with 10 runs batted in for the day to keep the Lady Chaps a perfect 28-0 all time against the Greyhounds.
 
SCORELESS
The Lady Chaps (29-14) scored a run in the first inning when Lindzi Clemmer drove in Courtney Medina. The Greyhounds (18-31) responded with two runs in the second inning on a Karina Moreno two-run home run. LCU proceeded to plate seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an 8-2 lead. Clemmer drove in three runs in the inning with a rocket over the left field fence. KK Lopez-Liu immediately followed with a homer to centerfield. Sydney Beuthien tripled then scored one pitch later on a wild pitch. Morgan Dufour followed with a double down the left field line before being driven in by K'leigh Arredondo.
 
INSURANCE
Lubbock Christian plated an insurance run in the third inning. with Dufour getting a hit to left field to score Lopez-Liu, and another in the fourth inning with Clemmer's fifth RBI of the game. Clemmer's hit drove in Adelae Vayas for the mercy-rule victory.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Monique Francois (21-5) started the game in the circle for Lubbock Christian, pitching the complete game and allowing two runs off six hits while striking out seven Greyhounds to notch her 21st victory of the season. Leslie Reyes (8-12) got the start for Eastern New Mexico, throwing 1.1 innings and giving up five runs on five hits while walking three Lady Chaps. Kiana Zerr pitched the final 2.2 innings in relief giving up five more runs on eight hits (she racked up four additional walks for ENMU).
 
EARLY
The Lady Chaps scored three runs in the first inning of the second game to get on the scoreboard early with a three-run bomb by Beuthien. The Greyhounds managed to get one run across in the second inning before LCU added five runs in the bottom half of the inning when Medina drove in Arredondo, followed by a bases-loaded double from Clemmer to drive in three runs. A sacrifice fly was added by Lopez-Liu. Five more runs by LCU in the third inning put them up 13-1, starting with Haley Hardison knocking in Dufour and Megan Darling driving in Averi Miller. Clemmer's double drove in two more runs before she scored on a Greyhound error.
 
COMEBACK
Eastern New Mexico scored two runs in the fourth inning off a Elysa Rodriguez two-run home run and four more runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to six and force the Lady Chaps to bat in the bottom of the inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Arredondo drove a ball up the middle to plate Darling and Beuthien and give the Lady Chaps the walk-off mercy rule victory.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Taylor Hinojos (2-4) started game two in the circle for LCU pitching all but one out, allowing five runs (only two earned) off seven hits to earn her second win of the year. Clarissa Martinez came in to get the final out allowing two runs on three hits before getting the out. Kimberly Herron (2-8) was tabbed the game two starter for ENMU, throwing the first two innings and giving up nine runs off five hits while walking three Lady Chaps. She suffered her eighth loss of 2018. Hanna Gary pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up six runs off five hits and walking five more Lady Chaps.
 
SEASON FINALE
The Lady Chaps remain home to host Texas A&M International in a three-game Heartland Conference series Friday and Saturday to wrap up their regular season with the first pitch of the Friday doubleheader set for 2PM.
 
SENIOR DAY
Seven seniors will be honored after the final game of the series scheduled for noon Saturday.
