Lady Chaps Test Ranked Foe, Ultimately Fall

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
• Lubbock Christian University opened up their 2018 campaign Saturday afternoon at home against the No. 3 ranked University of Colorado – Colorado Springs.
• Though the Lady Chaparrals went up first, UCCS ultimately came back to top Lubbock Christian 2-1.
• LCU's solo goal came off of 10 shots for the afternoon.
• Sophomore Hannah Wise provided four saves against the Mountain Lions.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hailey Phipps came up with the first goal of the day capitalizing on a corner kick from freshman Dallas Sanders. The cross fell to Haley Knesek before being played to Phipps inside the six-yard box. Phipps' goal came at the 16:30 mark for the Lady Chaparrals.
• Madison Tominello evened things up for UCCS just four minutes later with a tap-in of her own from inside the six-yard box.
• Tori Maydew came up with the game-winner for the Mountain Lions late in the second period after running onto a through-ball in the 18-yard box from Savannah Mills in the 77th minute.

GAME NOTES
• The loss drops the Lady Chaparrals to a 7-2-0 mark all-time in season-opening contests.
• Freshman Makenna Pate led the LCU offense notching three shots for the afternoon.
• Lubbock Christian's defense limited the high-powered UCCS offense to a .125 shots-on-goal average.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
6: Phipps' goal against the Mountain Lions moves the Lady Chaparrals to six consecutive campaigns scoring in the season opening contest.
 

UP NEXT
The Lady Chaps will remain at home for a bout against Colorado State University – Pueblo. LCU will be looking for revenge as the Thunderwolves came up with a 2-0 win in their first and only meeting (Sept. 2, 2017). CSU-P opens up their 2018 campaign Saturday evening on the road against West Texas A&M University. Kick off against CSU-P is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. on LCU Soccer Field.
