Chaps, Patriots Battle on Saturday

LCU Has Played Two Straight Overtime Games

CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • With the season a little more than halfway over, Lubbock Christian currently sits in fourth place in the Lone Star Conference, just behind St. Mary's and ahead of West Texas A&M
  • Sophomore forward Fernando Flores leads the Lone Star Conference in goals with nine so far this season, although he did not score in Thursday's tie against St. Edward's
  • LCU has played past the 90-minute mark in back-to-back games, beating OC with a golden goal on October 5 before Thursday's tie against the Hilltoppers
  • DBU is the only LSC team with only losses through their first four conference games of the season
  • Pablo Galietero Diez scored LCU's lone goal in Thursday's game against SEU. It was his fourth of the season and he now has 11 points overall
 
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Chap goalkeeper Braxton Thorne just needs four more saves to become the all-time LCU leader in that category
  • Lubbock Christian has 20 goals and 14 assists this year for a total of 54 total points, which is the third most of any LSC team
  • More than 60 of LCU's 135 shots this season have been on frame for a .467 shot-on-goal percentage. The have the fourth most shots on goal in the LSC
  • Six different Chaps have found the back of the net this season, but there also five LCU players with multiple shots on goal who are still looking for their first goal. Caram-Carneiro Alves, Jasper Reese, Niklas Neumann, Hector Rodriguez-Cabo and Connor Dean make up the group
  • LCU has a record of 2-2-1 on the road so far this season and will be looking to get above .500 in away games. After Saturday's matchup, they will play four more road games this season
 
SCOUTING DBU
  • DBU is one of three LSC teams with a negative scoring margin this season, allowing 2.22 goals per game while scoring just 1.44 of their own
  • The Patriots have played three opponents that LCU also took on in Oklahoma Baptist, Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Christian. The Chaps went 3-0 against those teams, while DBU posted a 1-2 record against them
  • Abraham Garcia leads the DBU offense with three goals and two assists for a team-leading eight points
  • The DBU men's soccer program is even newer than LCU's, as the Patriots began play in just 2012
  • Tristen Olvera has handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties for the Patriots, making 28 saves while allowing 20 goals
