Chaps Fall in Overtime

LCU Drops Non-Conference Matchup to UTPB

THE BASICS
Score: Lubbock Christian 1, UT Permian Basin 2
Records: LCU – 7-4-1 // UTPB – 4-8-0
Location: UTPB Turf Field – Odessa, Texas

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams each put a shot on goal in the first 20 minutes, with Abdou Joof taking LCU's and Braxton Thorne making the save in goal for LCU
  • In the 23rd minute, Thorne made his third save of the match, officially making him the all-time Lubbock Christian record holder in that category
  • The Chaps got the lead in the 29th minute on a goal from Caram Carneiro Alves with Niklas Neumann assisting
  • Chaps went into halftime with the lead, but UTPB tied the game just 10 minutes in after the break on a goal from Kasper Wallstroem
  • LCU finally got a second half shot on goal in the 78th minute from Richie Vaca-Cordova, but the Falcon keeper made the save
  • Jasper Reese tried to give the Chaps the lead and possibly the win with just two minutes left in regulation, but had his shot saved as well
  • UTPB's game-winner came in the 97th minute from Salvador Vargas Ramos

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
  • Caram Carneiro Alves's goal in the 29th minute was his first this season and the first of his collegiate career
  • Thorne had six saves in the loss, coming up just one short of matching his season high
  • Ten different Lubbock Christian players took shots in the game, led by Agustine Contreras Orsi with three. LCU's four different shots on goal also all came from different players
  • Chaps were called for three fewer yellow cards and eight fewer fouls than the Falcons during the course of the game

CHAPARRAL NOTES
  • Lubbock Christian has now played past the 90 minute mark in four straight games, going 2-1-1 in that span. Prior to this season, the Chaps had never played more than two overtime games in a row
  • Shots for the two teams in the game were even at 13 each, marking just the second time this season that has happened in an LCU game. The only other time was in the season-opener against UCCS, which the Chaps won
  • The Chaps were previously 5-0 when scoring first and 3-0 when leading at halftime this season
  • With six saves in the match, LCU goalkeeper Braxton Thorne now has 124 for his career, surpassing Hunter Ganze for the all-time Lubbock Christian record
  • Lubbock Christian is now 7-5-2 in the all-time series against UT Permian Basin

NEXT UP
  • The Chaps will not play again this weekend, but will return to Lone Star Conference action next week, taking on UT Tyler at 3:30 p.m. on October 24 at the LCU Soccer Field
