Lady Chaps Shut Out Second Straight Opponent

LCU Wins Eighth Game of the Season

THE BASICS
Score: Lubbock Christian 2, Texas A&M International 0
Records: LCU 8-4-1, 5-2-1 // TAMIU – 2-7-2, 1-4-2
Location: LCU Soccer Field – Lubbock, Texas

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • LCU earned three quick corner kicks in the early goings before capitalizing with a goal from Allison Scott in the ninth minute. Gabby Gomez served in a ball from the far sideline, and Scott was waiting at the penalty spot to head it home
  • Scott tried for her second less than ten minutes later, putting a shot on goal that was saved by the TAMIU keeper
  • Hollie Windham had the only other shot on goal of the half, hitting one toward the bottom right of the goal, but it was again saved
  • Some fancy footwork from Haley Knesek allowed her the space to put a shot on goal in the 47th minute, the Dustdevil keeper was there to stop it
  • The Lady Chaps earned another corner kick in the 58th minute and made it count. Victoria Ramirez got a shot on goal off the corner that was stopped, but Gomez made sure to score on the rebound, putting LCU up 2-0
  • Tegan Wilson came just inches away from adding a third goal in the 79th minute but hit the crossbar
  • Lubbock Christian did seem to put another goal in on a corner kick in the 83rd minute, but the referee ruled that play had been stopped when it was scored

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Lady Chaps have now shut out five opponents this season, which is tied for the second most in the Lone Star Conference
  • Nine different Lubbock Christian players recorded shots, led by Allison Scott and Haley Knesek with four each
  • LCU's 13 corner kicks drawn in the game were tied for their most in a single contest this year. They also earned 13 in the September 22 win over UT Permian Basin (11-0)
  • Gabby's Gomez's three points were her most to ever record in a single game, breaking a previous career-high of two (four times)
  • The Lady Chaps allowed just one shot from the Dustdevil offense, which was their lowest total allowed since October 14, 2017, when they also allowed just one in a 1-0 win over St. Mary's

LADY CHAP NOTES
  • The assist from Gomez on Scott's goal was just her second ever and her first since a 4-0 win over UT Permian Basin on August 31, 2017 – the very first game of her collegiate career
  • Lubbock Christian scored first in a game for the ninth time this season and is now 8-1 in those contests
  • Scott's goal was her seventh of the season, putting her back in a tie for the team lead with Knesek
  • Saturday's meeting was the 10th ever between Texas A&M-International and Lubbock Christian, and LCU moved to a perfect 10-0 against TAMIU all-time
  • With the win, the Lady Chaps are now 5-1 on their home field this season, and with only three home games left to play, they have guaranteed a winning home record for 2019. LCU has never had a losing record at home under head coach Alex Denning (2012-present)

NEXT UP
  • The Lady Chaps will go on the road next weekend, taking on Midwestern State on Thursday and facing Oklahoma Christian on Saturday
