Chaps Looking for Bounce-Back Against No. 5 St. Mary’s

CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • St. Mary's is the highest ranked opponent Lubbock Christian has faced since they took on No. 4 Midwestern State on September 29 last year
  • The Chaps have scored at least one goal in nine straight games, with their last shutout coming on September 20 at Concordia
  • Tariq Bakkali scored his fifth goal of the season on Thursday. He now has 12th points this season, which is the second most on the team and the 11th best mark in the Lone Star Conference
  • LCU is 3-4-1 in road games this season and 8-22-6 in road games since the start of the 2016 season
 
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Last road win for the Chaps was a 3-2 double overtime victory at Dallas Baptist on October 12
  • LCU has scored the vast majority of their goals in the second half or later. Tariq Bakkali netted just the eighth first half goal of the season for LCU on Thursday, but they have scored 17  in the second half and another three in overtime
  • With four game-winning goals on the season, Chap forward Fernando Flores ranks 10th nationally and leads the Lone Star Conference in that category
  • Lubbock Christian averages 13.41 fouls per game this season, which is the third-highest mark in the LSC
  • Thursday night's loss to Texas A&M International stopped a five-game streak of LCU games that went into overtime. The Chaps played a program-high six overtime games during the 2018 season
  • With 1325 goalie minutes played, LCU keeper Braxton Thorne ranks second in the LSCU and No. 29 nationally. Thorne has made 44 saves this season and has a goals against average of 1.765
  • The loss to TAMIU dropped Lubbock Christian to 3-3-1 in Thursday games, but they are 3-0 so far this season in games played on a Saturday
 
SCOUTING ST. MARY'S
  • St. Mary's is first in the Lone Star Conference and ranked No. 10 nationally after taking down Midwestern State last week
  • Ollie Wright leads the team and ranks second in the Lone Star Conference in total points with 22
  • Jacob Sayle has been the team's main goalkeeper, recording 28 saves with just 11 goals allowed
  • St. Mary's is allowing just .93 goals per game from opponents this year, which is the second-best mark in the league
  • Saturday will be senior day for the Rattlers
 
THE SERIES WITH THE RATTLERS
Lubbock Christian has a 5-3 advantage over St. Mary's in the all-time series, which began in 2011 with an LCU 6-1 win. The Chaps were winners in the first three matchups before St. Mary's got a win in 2015 in Lubbock. LCU and StMU last faced off in the Heartland Conference Tournament last season, with the Chaps winning 2-1 in San Antonio.
