THE BASICS
Score: Lubbock Christian 0, Angelo State 0 (LCU 5-4 on penalties)
Records: LCU 13-4-2, 10-2-1 / ASU 12-5-2, 8-4-1
Location: LCU Soccer Field – Lubbock, Texas

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Haley Knesek got an early scoring chance in the 12th minute with a shot on goal, but it was saved by ASU keeper Kira Miller. Cassidy Hill got the first scoring for the Belles in the 21st minute, forcing a save from Hannah Wise
  • LCU's defense did not allow another ASU shot for the remainder of the first half, and although the Lady Chaps had eight more shots, none of them were on goal
  • Knesek, Celia Duarte and Allison Scott all had shots in the first eight minutes of the second half, but none found the back of the net. Duarte put a shot on goal in the 70th minute, but it was saved
  • With the two teams still scoreless at the end of regulation, the game went into overtime. In the first extra period, LCU earned a corner kick, but no shots were taken by either team
  • Angelo State got called for offsides in the second overtime after earning a corner and Lubbock Christian earned a corner as well, but neither team took a shot again
  • In penalties, ASU missed their second with a  shot off the crossbar, while LCU made their first four. Kira Miller kept the Belles hopes alive with a save on the fifth Lady Chap penalty, however, forcing extra kicks to be taken
  • Arely Jiminez took the sixth kick for Lubbock Christian and converted, and Hannah Wise followed by making the biggest save in LCU's program history, stopping Chloe Souza's shot with her right hand and sending the Lady Chaps to the next round

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
  • Lubbock Christian is advancing to the second round of a postseason tournament for the first time in program history
  • The Lady Chaps recorded 19 shots in the game, all of which came in regulation time, while Angelo State was held to just eight
  • Allison Scott led the team with eight shots, which was also a new career-high for the Lubbock native
  • The shutout of the Belles was Lubbock Christian's fourth in the last five games and lowered their season goals against average to just .84

LADY CHAP NOTES
  • The game was LCU's second draw of the season after not having any in all of 2018. The 2016 season was the last time the Lady Chaps tied in more than one game
  •  LCU now has nine shutouts this season, which is the second-most in a season in program history. The only season with more was 2017, when they had 10
  • Two shots on goal was tied for the second-fewest in a single game this season by the Lady Chaps and was their fewest since recording two in a 1-1 draw at St. Edward's on October 12
  • Moving onto the semifinal round means Lubbock Christian will play 20 games in a season for the first time in program history. LCU's previous program record was 19 games, which they played in 2010, 2012 and 2018
  • LCU earned seven corner kicks in the contest to just three for ASU. They are now 11-1 this season with more corners

NEXT UP
