LUBBOCK, Texas (November 30, 2019) – The Lubbock Christian men's basketball team closed out its non-conference portion of a schedule with a bang, blowing past Oklahoma Panhandle State 95-56.
Three LCU players set new career highs in scoring against OPSU, led by freshman
Ty Caswell, who scored 21 points. Caswell hit five three-pointers and was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. The Wichita Falls native has not missed a foul shot yet this season.
Silas Crisler finished right behind Caswell with 20 points and added in six assists as well. Finally, redshirt freshman
Cade McDowell reached double figures for the first time ever, scoring 12 points in just eight minutes and 45 seconds on the floor.
Kobe Thompson scored the first Chap basket in what turned out to be a wire-to-wire win. Three-pointers from Caswell,
Parker Hicks and Crisler got the lead out to double-digits at the 12:12 mark. Crisler's three-pointer was his first of four straight makes from behind the arc. The South Carolina native finished 6-8 on threes, marking the second straight game a Chap player hit six three-pointers.
As a team, LCU shot 56.3 percent from behind the arc in the win, which was their highest three-point field goal percentage since December 6, 2018, when they shot 63.6 percent in a win over West Texas A&M.
OPSU put together a seven-point run with 10 minutes left in the first half, cutting the LCU lead to just eight points, but
Cameron Copley stopped the run with a three-pointer at the 9:47 mark. Copley also set a new season-high with eight assists in the win. The Chaps closed the first half on a 7-0 run capped off by a three-pointer from
Zach Stepp, and they kept the lead in the double-digits for the remainder of the game.
Caswell hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the second half, forcing a timeout from the Aggies. Out of the timeout, Copley forced a turnover and hit
Lloyd Daniels on the fastbreak for a dunk. Daniels and Hicks then hit back-to-back three-pointers, stretching the LCU lead out to 31 points.
The Chap bench took over for the final 10 minutes of the game, but that didn't slow down the offense. Stepp hit another three-pointer followed by a jumper from McDowell to increase LCU's lead to 40 points. McDowell scored another 10 points as the game wrapped up and Crisler added another two three-pointers, leading to LCU's 49-point win.
TURNING POINT
Crisler's four straight three-pointers just before the 10 minute mark in the first half took the Chaps from being up just six to up by 16. OPSU never drew closer than eight points the rest of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Caswell and Crisler both reached the 20-point mark for the first time in their careers and also helped extend a Lubbock Christian streak. The Chaps have now had at least one player score 20 or more points in three straight games.
Kobe Thompson started the streak with 20 in last week's loss to Angelo State, and Hicks poured in 22 in Friday night's win over Southwest.
